How To Optimize And Speed Up Mac Computer

No matter how much you spent on buying a Mac, with the course of time it will too become slow and sluggish. The speed and performance that your new purchased Mac delivers degrade with the time and the more you start seeing that spinning wheel while opening an application. But does it mean that you have to trash your old mac and purchase a new one? No, as your old Mac has still a lot of juice inside it. The only thing you need to do is optimize your mac with some of the tweaks that we are going to share in this article. And once you apply all those tweaks you can again speed up your mac like the new one.

Control Your Startup Programs:

When your mac starts or boots up many applications and process start along with it. Some of them are necessary but rest most of us totally unnecessary. Now, when these unnecessary applications start with the startup of your mac it not only slows down the startup of the mac but also degrades the overall performance. So, to speed up your mac all you need to do is to disable these applications from running at startup.

To do so go to System Preference and select Users and Groups. Now click on the username to display all the login/startup items. Select the application that is not required to start at startup and click on the "-" button. Please note that less the number of apps run at startup faster is the startup time of your mac.

Close the Resource Hungry Application Running in Background:

There are some of the applications that unnecessary keeps on running in the background and consumes the system resources. All this leads to slow down of the mac. To handle this, you have to optimize your mac by seeking the help of Activity Monitor, that displays all the applications that are eating your system resources.

To do so open Activity Monitor and click on CPU tab. Now, look out for the applications that are consuming most of the resources. Once located close or kill that process or application to regain the performance of your mac.

Uninstall all Unnecessary Application:

When your mac is new and performing at the peak we tend to install a lot of applications, especially the one that is free to use. But with the passage of time, we stop using them, but they remain in our mac needlessly occupying the disk space and slowing it. So, if you too feeling that your mac is sluggish then you should look for the unnecessary applications that are no more required. And once located uninstall them to speed up your mac. To uninstall an application just drag and drop it to trash. You can also right click on the application and select the option move to trash. This will not make your mac speedy but also saves a lot of disk on your hard drive.

Update your Outdated OS:

From time to time Apple releases the updates for your Mac operating system. These updates not only include the security patches to enhance the security but also includes the fixes that optimize your mac. So, whenever an update is available it should be installed on a priority basis. Believe it or not but an updated operating system is capable enough to speed up your mac.

Give your Mac a Restart:

Although, this step seems to be lame and simple yet many at times it is enough to speed up your slow mac. When you restart your Mac, it closes all the applications that are running in the foreground as well as in the background. Once it restarts all you get is a refreshed machine ready to work better. And guys, nothing is simpler than restarting a mac.

Just click on the apple icon on the top left corner of the screen and click on the restart option. In the pop-up that prompts select the option Restart to give you mac a fresh start.

Use a Mac Cleaning tool:

Although the above-discussed tweaks are simple to perform without any prerequisite technical expertise. However, still, if you find them geeky and cumbersome, then you can use any of the mac cleaner software available in the market. A mac cleaning software helps to speed up your mac by automating the process of cleaning and optimizing the mac.
