How I Improved My Travel Blogs in Just One Year

When you are a beginner at travel writing, the writer’s block may haunt you for a long time. It needs a high level of commitment and dedication to become a successful travel writer, but you may not realize it in the beginning. Nonetheless, as the time elapses, you may meet other travel writers and fathom that your blog may not work out without sitting down in reality to write.

Read a lot

The first step to begin travel writing is to read a lot of writings from the genre you want to adopt. Find out the writers or bloggers that are well-established in your field of interest, and read what they write. Travel writing is easy since most travel blogs are just narratives of someone’s experiences. However, each blogger has a unique style to catch the reader’s attention.

When you read other’s writings, you subconsciously steal their ideas, which is not a bad thing in the beginning. As you go ahead with writing yourself, you may develop your own style, which may or may not be similar to someone else’s style. Nevertheless, never stop reading, be it online news, fiction stories, novels, blogs, or any other piece of writing. Let your mind be an open door that welcomes everything you let pass through it.

Write something every day

If needed, set a reminder to tell you that you need to sit down and write. Find out the ideal time when no one disturbs you, be it early morning, afternoon, or late night. Do not deceive yourself by saying that you have kids, job, household chores, etc. that do not let you make time for writing. Commit yourself that you will spend at least an hour to write just anything, and tell everyone not to disturb you during that time. You may not be able to find words to express your thoughts, but it is absolutely fine. Never underestimate yourself, and think about your previous vacations.

Write down the places that you have visited in the past, including the little visits to temples or your weekend getaways. Every single experience counts when you are writing your travel diaries. Even if you spend a week or a month doing nothing at your work station, it is fine. Just never quit your routine.

Aim for little targets

Although it is fine not to write for a few days, you must write a few words every day after your warming up period is over. Yet, you can set very small targets for yourself, say 20 words per day rather than 1000 words daily. But those 20 words should pop out straight from your mind even if you feel that you took inspiration from someone else. When you set realistic and achievable targets, you do not embarrass yourself or anyone else.

Write about everyday travels

You may not find fodder to write about various topics because not everyone is a fulltime traveler. However, you would certainly have experiences that count at least something for some people. If you write about Self-Drive Cars in Bangalore, it must be a new thing to know for someone out there. If you write about the traffic jam in Bangalore, someone will thank you for your effort of writing. When you pen down your thoughts about the Gateway of India, someone may match with your perspective, which may be different from the mainstream bloggers.

When you start writing about your travels, there is something that will always strike a chord with someone. Therefore, never underestimate your writing, but definitely pat attention to grammar and writing structure.
