Great Indian festival- Holi

India is a great country and people here in this country care a lot about their festivals and cultural ideologies. Indian people respect their culture so much and in lieu of that people celebrate a lot of festivals in the whole year. One of these festivals is holi festival. It is one of the most cherished festival in India.

Ask anyone about Holi. Majority of people become excited when they hear the word Holi. Such is the flamboyance of this holi festival.

People of all ages like this festival. People in their societies and with their relatives celebrate this festival of colours.

About holi

Holi is one of the major festival which is celebrated in India. It is celebrated in the month of March in India which is phalgun month according to Indian calendar. There is so much excitement among people when they celebrate this festival.

How it is made special

We are talking about excitement and all of the people related to this holi festival. But the question is that how it is made special. So here are different ways by which people make this festival special.

  • There are a lot of preparations which are done for festival of Holi. The markets in the cities and the towns are loaded with colours and other items related to the festival of Holi.

  • People go to the markets and buy these colors and other Holi related items for their children and other members of the family which makes this festival even more special.

  • In these days of the festival people buy new clothes for their whole family. People dress in a festive look and in this way also they make this festival special for them.

  • On the day of Holi people go out and play with colours. This is the best way to celebrate this festival. On this day people put colour on other people like their friends and family members as a gesture of love. There is so much excitement when people play with colours.

Why Holi

Now the question which is really important is that why Holi is celebrated. This is a important question to answer. There is a lot of importance related to this festival.

The most important legend related to this festival of Holi is of king hiranyakashyap who is also known as harnaksh. He was a evil king and with his meditation he had procured a lot of magical powers.

All his powers made him feel the greatest king in the world. That is why he ordered all the people over his kingdom to worship him. But this did not went well with this son namely prahalad who wanted to worship Lord Vishnu.

Prahalad did not pay heed to the order of his father and this made him angry. He ordered his sister, holika to take prahalad in her lap and sit in fire. Holika was immune to fire.

But the Lord saved prahalad and holika was killed because of fire.

That is why one night before Holi people light a bonfire namely holika and celebrate the victory of good over evil.

This is one of the main reasons why Holi is celebrated.

In South part of India people worship kamadeva on the eve of Holi for his sacrifices.

Holi is a great Indian festival and it has made a special place for itself in the heart of Indian people. Different legends related to this festival make this festival even more special. So this festival is a gesture of love as people colour those people as well with whom they has some kind of resentment. So this festival must be celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm.
