The new 2019 Mazda 3 sedan and hatch have been revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show. This is clearly a departure from the current version with several key design changes that make give the range an interesting new feel. There is also plenty of kit onboard to keep people happy and a host of variants to choose from. Let’s take a closer look at some of the critical details for this new release.

A New Design Ethos

The new Mazda 3 will showcase a new direction for the Japanese car maker. Mazda has established a new design language that they have dubbed as "Kodo." The hatch draws heavily on the style shown in the Kai concept, and it’s described as "emotive." The sedan takes its styling cues from the Vision Coupe concept, and it’s described by Mazda as "elegant." Both the Kai and the Vision Coupe concept cars were seen at the Tokyo Motor Show last year where they created quite a stir. This new styling is carried on into other parts of the car, there are new front, and rear circular LED lighting designs that help to create a minimalist feel. In fact, both cars could be considered to impart a clean and dynamic feeling.

The New Mazda 3

Both the hatch and the sedan have undergone a considerable overhaul. We now have the aforementioned new designs to look forward to, as well some fantastic new tech and a SkyActiv-X powertrain as well. The cabin design in the hatch and sedan models is certainly influenced solely by the Kai concept. The dashboard is very driver focused, and it’s equipped with a larger 8.8" display screen. This will make it far easier to access the MZD Connect infotainment system. The manual and automatic gear shift have been moved further forward for easier use too. The centre console has been revised, and the front seat now has a cushion tilting adjustment fitted as standard. There are three colours available; they are Black, Greige (a mix of Beige and Black) and Burgundy. The hatch features all three colours, but Burgundy is not available on the sedan variants.

The Equipment

At the moment we know that the North American models will feature a Bose 8 speaker stereo and at the premium end of the range, this rises to 12 speakers. Every model will have a new two wall structure that is designed to improve sound deadening features in the cabin. This will help to reduce and noise vibration harshness levels to an acceptable level. This is carried on into the tyres; they have an optimal vertical spring motion, this is paired with increased rigidity to help in suppressing vibrations that could be transmitted into the cabin area.

Australian Availability

The new 2019 Mazda 3 range is set to arrive here sometime during the middle of next year. The full details have not yet been released on the availability of various models, and we will keep you posted as and when more information becomes available.
