Located in the south of Asia, the land-locked country of Nepal is famous for its mountains, and many people go there specifically to climb the peaks. While this is a great reason to go to Nepal, don’t let it be the only reason! If you are keen on the idea of trekking holidays but don’t want to scale the larger mountains, you can still enjoy this wonderful country. Begin by exploring Kathmandu then head inwards to explore Ghandrung and the Annapurna Range. Finally, enjoy the experience of staying in traditional tea huts and pay a visit to the jungles of Chitwan to round out your trekking holidays in Nepal.

Kathmandu

With eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains within its borders, it’s no wonder Nepal is a coveted destination for those craving an adventure. By beginning your trekking holidays in Kathmandu, you can experience the rich history of the two thousand year-old city. Hugely popular with tourists, it is from this aspect the economy of the country get its major income. As you spend a few days wandering around this ancient city, be sure to take note of the unique blend of eastern and western cultures. Since this city was on the spice route between Tibet and India, the architecture, food and even religion still reflects this today. Be sure to visit the Durbar Squares, and see the palaces for which they are named. Explore the 16th century Kasthamandap temple and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Boudhanath.

Ghandrung and Annapurna

Once you leave the capital of Kathmandu and head out to the hills on the next leg of your trekking holidays, you'll believe you have arrived in one of the most stunning settings in the world at the small village of Ghandrung. Though it’s small, it is very welcoming and has become popular with walkers and hikers of all ages for many years. Here, you can look out on to the huge swathe of the Annapurna Range - the beauty of these imposing peaks is protected in the country’s first and largest conservation area. A word of warning, though: if you plan to climb these mountains, go with a guide and take extra care.

Chitwan

The Chitwan area in central Nepal is an excellent excursion while in the country. Here the flora and fauna are particularly noteworthy, and the national park and reserve are filled with the most diverse selection of animals and plants in Asia. One thing not to miss while in the area is the chance to canoe and ride elephants through the dense jungle regions. It will be an epic end to a truly exciting and unforgettable holiday to this welcoming and beautiful Asian country.
