How to take care of the new kitten at home
Posted: Jan 11, 2019
Congratulations on being the new parent of a new furry member. Kittens make an excellent pet and bring in joy in the lives of their parents but they also bring in a level of responsibility that cannot be neglected. I always advise people to consider a few things before bringing home a new feline.
Be care for the first few weeks
Teacup kittens are definitely going to have challenges adjusting into your lifestyle the first few weeks. But moreover, it’s you who need to learn to accommodate the needs of the new pet into your lives. Sleeping and playing are the two major behaviors of your kitten you need to pay attention to for the first few weeks.
Start with introducing her to other adults in the family so she can socialize easily. Observe her behavior carefully and allow for a period of adjustment. Teach your family and friends to take care of her properly for instance, how to lift her the right way and hold her. Do not ever try to use force or punishment to correct her, to groom her into a well-adjusted cat you need to give her lots of attention and love.
Sleeping
You will be amazed to know that on average your kitten might sleep 16 hours a day. Sleep is an important part of her life and you need to be careful to create a comfy spot for her to relax in. Try to designate a corner of your house as the "kitten corner" where she can be alone, warm and away from high-traffic areas of the home. Include her bed, scratching post and her favorite toys in that corner.
Don’t be impatient if your cat does not take up the spot right away. As it is seen Persian kittens are very particular creatures and need time to adjust. Be calm she’ll come around eventually.
Playing
Kittens are very lively pets who are full of life, always curious and frisky. You may have a hard time to tell when she’s being playful or aggressive. If she pounces or stalks unsuspecting toys don’t get worried, she is just using her natural predatory instincts. It is often joyous and amusing to see them at play. You have to provide her with the appropriate toys so that she acts on them out of her natural instincts and not you. Ping-pong balls, wads of paper and kitten fishing toys will enhance her playtime. Be cautious to not offer her any toy that can shred, shatter or be swallowed.
Introducing Your Kitten to Children
A very important part of bringing home a kitten is to introduce her to your children. If you have younger children introduce your teacup kitten to them gradually and for short periods of time. Frequent playing is important but your kids must understand that the kitten is a sensitive and living creature.
Teach them how to pick her up and hold her. Also, make them aware of not pulling the kitten’s tail or poking or squeezing her.
