Hardware keyloggers are used to keep the track of keystrokes made on your keyboard, it records your very action made on keyboard including sensitive passwords and confidential information. They can be plugged in through a device between keyboard and computer and can also be implemented through BIOS-level Firmware. They keep all the track of keystrokes in their internal memory. Hardware keylogger has an advantage of starting logging your data as the computer is turned on, no software keylogger has this ability.

All Hardware keyloggers have a microcontroller that interrupts the data between computer and keyboard and save it in its memory. They also have a non-volatile memory in which all the data is saved. The memory can be in Kilobytes or Gigabytes depending on the specifications. Each keystroke typically consume a byte of memory.

TYPES:

WIRELESS HARDWARE KEYLOGGER SNIFFERS:

Wireless keylogger collects the packet of data which are sent from wireless keyboard to the computer and then it tries to crack the encryption key used to secure the communication between computer and wireless keyboard and then save it in its memory.

A REGULAR HARDWARE KEYLOGGER:

It is used for keystroke logging by implementing a hardware circuit that is attached somewhere between keyboard and computer. It keeps all the data save in its memory and can be accessed by typing in series. Hardware keyloggers have always advantage over software keyloggers as they are not dependent on any program, so they are hard to be detected and monitors the data from the moment your computer is turned on. They are designed to work with PS/2 keyboards or more recently with USB keyboards.
