Linksys Smart Wi-Fi router firmware update

Router firmware updates are essential for fixing bugs and increasing the router’s functionality. The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi router firmware must be regularly updated as it fixes all the issues that you may encounter daily while using it. An updated firmware can be downloaded from the Linksys Support site and they get updated with device feature enhancements not available in the previous versions. The firmware update can be done either manually or automatic.

Manual update of the router’s firmware:

  • Download the most recent firmware of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router from Linksyssmartwifi.com and save it on your computer. The router firmware is usually downloaded as a.zip file which needs to be unzipped before starting with the update process.

  • Log in to your Linksys Smart account through Linksyssmartwifi.com.

  • Click Connectivity and go to the Firmware Update section,

  • Click the choose file button under the Basic tab and select your downloaded file and click Open.

  • Click on the start button.

  • You will see an Update firmware box pops up, click yes which allows your router to start updating the firmware.

NOTE: Make sure to not to turn off your router or close the browser window during the update process.

  • Let the router reboot by clicking Ok to continue on the router reboot screen. The router reboot process will take few minutes.

Finally your router's firmware is updated now.

Auto-Updates on /off

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers are enabled with an auto Firmware Update feature which on turning on updates the router automatically whenever there is a new firmware available. In case you do not want your router to receive automatic firmware updates, you will have to turn off the Automatic Firmware Update feature following the steps below:

  • You need to log in to your Linksys account by going to linksyssmartwifi.com after the web-based setup page opens.

  • You can also access the web-based setup page of Linksys router by opening a web browser and entering default IP "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar

  • Click on the Connectivity.

  • Go to the Basic tab and uncheck the box against Automatic under Firmware Update and then click on Ok.

Firmware update using the Check for Updates button

  • You need to log in to your Linksys account by going to linksyssmartwifi.com after the web-based setup page opens.

  • You can also access the web-based setup page of Linksys router by opening a web browser and entering default IP "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar

  • Go to the Firmware Update section and then click on the Basic tab, click on Check for Updates.

  • Whenever the router detects a firmware update from now you will be able to download and further install the firmware on your device.

NOTE: If there is No updates found message displayed, it indicates that your router has the latest firmware version installed.

  • Click yes when the Update firmware pop-up box appears following which your router will start to update the firmware.

Note: NOTE: Make sure to not to turn off your router or close the browser window during the update process to avoid the firmware of your router to get corrupted.

  • Let the router reboot by clicking Ok to continue on the router reboot screen.

  • The router reboot process will take few minutes.

Enabling Automatic update

  • You need to log in to your Linksys account by going to linksyssmartwifi.com after the web-based setup page opens.

  • You can also access the web-based setup page of Linksys router by opening a web browser and entering default IP "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar

  • Go to the Firmware Update section and click the box to enable the Automatic firmware update option. Then, click on Apply to save the changes.

NOTE: The automatic firmware update feature on the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers is Disabled by default and the router will be able to detect available updates for you to apply on your device whenever online.

  • Click yes when the Update firmware pop-up box appears following which your router will start to update the firmware.

  • Note: NOTE: Make sure to not to turn off your router or close the browser window during the update process to avoid the firmware of your router to get corrupted.

  • Let the router reboot by clicking Ok to continue on the router reboot screen.

  • The router reboot process will take few minutes.
