Q1. Description of a department

St Georges Hospital has many departments including the human resource, information technology, patient care, surgery, anesthesia, gynecology, dentistry, among others. The information technology department in this hospital entails few personnel that do not have enough skills and are unable to coordinate tasks well amongst themselves and with other departments. There is one system administrator, there are data entry clerks, and there are the chief information officer and other technical personnel that have the responsibility of assisting the rest of the staff on IT matters and also integrating IT into the clinical practice. They are also responsible for researching of better ways to help in improving healthcare services through the application of appropriate IT systems and assets. The department carries out research for technology application in the healthcare, uses the available IT skills to provide better services that are of high quality (Rosenfeld & Mendelson. 2004). They can help for instance in delivering timely care and attending to many patients within a short time with more accuracy due to the application of powerful healthcare technology.

Q2. Describing the Problem

Te problem that exist in the information technology (IT) debarment is a lack of better coordination and relevant skills to leverage powerful technologies in the hospital and help in uniting the technology and clinical practice. That problem exists in the input because there is a lack of the required energy to drive operations in the hospital in question. Information technology has a great potential for improving the safety, quality as well as the efficiency of heath care (Meyer & O’Brien-Pallas, 2010). If the IT personnel had the required skills and coordination, the IT would bring the expected benefits to the hospital. That means; currently, the IT skills and technology have underutilization. As the open systems theory suggests, there is a need to divide the labor in a given subsystem so as to accomplish tasks successfully. It also suggests that the production subsystem ought to transform the throughput so as to meet t5e task requirements and optimize task accomplishments through the technical proficiency (Katz & Kahn, 1978). That is what is lacking.

Q3. How to Address the Problem

Desired outcome

Despite considerable attention to IT application in the health care, the IT department in the mentioned department remains ignorant of much of the role of IT in the healthcare setting. The expected out output for their case is the provision of better and high-quality services in the hospital in question so as to realize the promises of IT application. The other desired outcome is to have highly competent IT personnel in the organization as they would help bring the necessary skills required to realize the desired outcomes of IT application in the Industry. There is also a need to have more accurate and timely services in the health care because of the sensitivity of its services and the expectations s of the clients.

Goals and Objectives

  • Ensure recruitment of highly qualified IT personnel
  • Conduct research on the specific technology applicable to the industry and implement them
  • Reorganize the IT department so as to ensure synergy
  • Conduct training for the available staff through seminars and workshops so as to improve their skills.
  • To have better management of the IT department so as to ensure coordination with other detainments within the hospital.
  • Have full management support so as to have full implementation of the required changes in the IT department.

Translate goals and objectives into policies and procedures

Policies and procedures in the It department are essential in ensuring that the staff is aware of their obligations in light of selection, use as well as the safety of utilizing the IT within the organization. One of the policies is that the employees of the IT department should meet some threshold qualifications like a master’s degree plus additional certifications in the subject area as well as a working experience of up to five years in a recognized institution or company. The purchase of equipment for the department for use in the hospital should have approval by a qualified quality assurance officer in conjunction with the IT manager. The technology purchased should have a good record of good performance in known industries. Before any purchase of technology or a project development, there should be a through feasibility analysis to ensure that it is technical, economically, legally, operationally, and ethically feasible. Al the departments should liaise with the IT department so as to learn their responsibilities and how they should align with each other.

Relevant professional standards

The IT departments, as well as other departments within the organization in question, should have a continued commitment to the healthcare profession. There should be a continued evidence-based practice in implementing the system that will bring the desired results into the organization. The application of ethics should have a high regard for the organization in light of the practice and the coordination among the staffs and clients. The organization should conduct in an often manner profession practice evaluation to ensure that the employees remain competent. The department should ensure that the personnel keeps themselves up to date as pertains to the professional issues and trends (Mensik et al., 2011). There should also be a client-focused service provision as well as a knowledge-based practice.

Q4. How the proposed resolution would uphold the organization’s mission and values as well as improving the culture and climate

The improvement of health care practice through the application of suitable IT system and skills will help to foster the organizational mission, values and, in turn, it will improve the climate and the culture of the organization. The organization has the aim of providing a high-quality health care promptly to all that seek medication in the same. The improvement of the IT infrastructure will help to uphold this vision because it perfectly aligns with it. There will be more unification between the departments in the organization and services quality will be more than the expectations of the patients (Rosenfeld & Mendelson. 2004). There will be faster services provision with improved precision. The overall climate for the company will change because the IT systems will have an overall impact on the organization.
