Always Use Genuine Nissan Parts

Posted: Jan 19, 2019
We always recommend that our customers always genuine Nissan spare parts or approved parts for their vehicles. In recent years, we have seen a virtual explosion in the number of seized counterfeit parts coming into Australia. Many of these parts are manufactured in South East Asian countries, and they are not built to last. These fake parts may look like Nissan parts, but they will fail early and put other components at risk. Let’s take a closer look at this serious issue; we will examine a recent seizure and look at how you can avoid fake junk parts.
A Counterfeit Oil Filter Seizure
A consignment of counterfeit oil filters was recently seized here in Australia for popular car manufacturers, such as Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai. These oil filters have several design flaws and inferior engineering; one major flaw will even expose crucial engine parts to premature failure and damage. More extensive testing was carried out at laboratories in Japan and Korea, which revealed that these fake oil filters have bypass valves inside them that have failed entirely. A bypass valve is an oil filter feature that will allow the oil to get to the engine if the filter becomes clogged or blocked. These counterfeit filters have bypass valves that will stay open permanently, and this will prevent the oil filtration process. This can easily lead to engine damage from unfiltered oil.
The Scale of the Problem
In another recent seizure, more than 500 counterfeit oil filters that appeared to be branded parts from car manufacturers, such as Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, and Lexus, were discovered. The sales records were collected; these car manufacturers had to track down the affected customers and issues a warning. Of course, this is a single fake parts seizure, and we have no idea what the real scale of the problem is. Also, these two recent parts seizures are both oil filters, but these are not the only parts that are being copied to generate illegal profits.
Avoiding Fake Parts
Generally, these fake parts are sold for cheaper prices to undercut the genuine parts. The counterfeiters play on the desire to get a bargain and save a few dollars. In fact, these parts will cost more because they will need to be replaced more often. Also, these parts can damage other components in your car, and this could be expensive. It’s always a better idea to buy Nissan parts online or from your local Nissan dealership. Then you can be certain that the parts are manufactured to the correct tolerances for your car.
