Antalya is one of the fascinating cities of Turkey, which is visited by many tourists annually. Not so long ago, it was seen merely as a gateway to the Turkish Riviera. However, it became one of the most sought-after destinations among tourists visiting the coastal regions of Turkey over the years. Antalya is located in the Asian part of the country and is bordered by the magnificent Taurus Mountains. The history of this Turkish city dates back to 200 BC when the Attalid dynasty ruled this region. In the times that followed, many powerful empires established their rule over the region, until it finally came under Turkey when the war of independence ended in 1923.

While enjoying your holidays to Antalya, you'll get the chance to explore its wonderful attractions. Among them is the old town of Kaleici, which is an ideal place in the city to enjoy a stroll. This neighbourhood has some old mansions that belong to the period when the Ottoman Sultans ruled Turkey. While walking the cobblestone streets of this old quarter in the city, you'll also come across boutique hotels, art galleries, restaurants, and shops selling souvenirs. You can also find many other attractions in Kaleici, such as the 18th-century Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque and a clock tower on the main square.

During your cheap holidays to Antalya, you'll also get to visit the Antalya Museum, which is an excellent place to be in if you wish to delve into Turkey's interesting history. While exploring this museum, you can witness some fantastic exhibits that were brought from the excavation sites located in the coastal areas of the country. All of them are exhibited in such a manner that visitors would understand the history of the region almost instantly. Some of the exhibits in the archaeological section date back to the Bronze Age.

If you're interested in history, the Aspendos is yet another intriguing ancient site you can visit during your holidays to Antalya. It features a Roman theatre, which is considered to be one of the world's best-preserved ancient sites. It dates back to the times between the 2nd and 3rd century when it was built along with several other structures that are in a state of ruin today. However, this particular site has been fully restored with a seating capacity of nearly 15,000 individuals. The Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival is a popular event hosted at this place every year by the Turkish State Opera and Ballet.

The Yivliminare Mosque, built by Alaaddin Keykubad I, is one of the finest buildings that the Seljuk Sultans of Anatolia constructed during their reign. Its name comes from the fluted minaret of the mosque, which is called 'Yivli Minare'. Adorned with tiles of dark blue shades, this minaret is a famous landmark in the city. This mosque is a part of the large complex that includes the Giyaseddin Keyhusrev Medrese and the Seljuk and Dervish lodge. It was reconstructed in the late 14th century for the second time since it was first built in 1230.
