There are local buses that run to the Rumah Baru jetty from the town centre, with ferries running between the Home Island and West Island several times each day, apart from Sundays. You’re likely to find details of the latest timetables at your accommodation, but if you are worried about getting around, be sure to place an advanced booking for a rental car.

Dining Out

There are several places to enjoy great food on the island with western style meals, cafes and fusion cuisine on offer. This provides some great opportunities to dine out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a la carte or buffet menus. Some venues require booking a reservation, but this can usually be arranged at the resort. If you fancy a less formal experience and want to get out into nature, there are several fantastic picnic areas. Many of these have a BBQ, so you can make a day of it. There are some spectacular views at the Cocos Seaview BBQ area, or you can choose a remote corner of the island and relax with one of the picnic sets.
