What Does 2019 Have to Offer the World Wide Web?
Posted: Feb 17, 2019
Every year is a fresh opportunity for technological developments to step into the spotlight. Some may have been months or years in the making before finally making their debut in 2019. While nothing is certain, there are definitely predictions to be made for the year ahead about what’s in store for the world wide web. Here’s a list of things we think are going to be making a huge impact to the internet this year:
The Introduction 5G
Say goodbye to 4G and welcome the new 5G network into your device, with speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G could offer. Though it was technically launched in 2018 (to 4 US cities: Sacramento, Houston, Los Angles and Indianapolis) it’s only really coming into prominence for the rest of the world this year. This means that the user experience is set to be significantly enhanced, as they’re able to connect to the internet at super-fast speeds, with the ability to download high-resolution movies in seconds.
The Disappearance Of 2G
With the introduction of 5G, it’s no wonder that 2G is slowly being phased out. It started in Asia, with KDDI discontinuing their TU-KA 2G product in 2008. In fact, by 2012, all of Japan’s mobile operators completely abandoned 2G. However, it’s still hanging around for many outside of Asia. Many phones made in 2019 onwards won’t be capable of 2G to try and trail off the use of 2G in the next few years.
Internet Will Catch Up With Television
Great news for every SEO agency Manchester businesses use, research shows that the internet will catch up to television in 2019 in terms of hours watched. Figures show that people will spend 2.6 hours a day online, mostly on mobile. Companies are likely to start spending less money on television ads and investing more in internet campaigns to try and attract new customers.
Privacy Conscious Browsing
Last year we saw countless privacy breaches that started to affect the general public, creating trust issues around internet use. Apple, Yahoo! and Lloyds Bank have all fallen victim to hackers and security faults. To try and eliminate their customer’s concerns, companies are demonstrating their determination to tackle such security errors. For example, Apple has teamed up with Silk Labs, an AI company, to show them how to process as much data as possible while also minimising the amount of personal information uploaded to the cloud.
A Rise In Voice Search
Voice powered applications and devices are set to be one of the biggest areas of growth in 2019, which also means that voice searches will increase. Home assistants and smartphone helpers like Siri have been slowly growing their number of users in the past few years. According to industry experts, 2019 will be the year that the public embrace searching using their voices instead of typing. This could be dramatic in terms of how Google is used, and how we start accessing our information. There are plenty of exciting things to look forward to in 2019, and the internet holds no exception!
