Netskope researchers: Recommendations to keep protected from internet attacks

2 weeks ago, McAfee and Netskope elaborated about the new and quite dangerous networking issue.

The Researches team from the Netskope detected an attack which is.pdf-based and its target count around 42 from the government, banking and financing sectors. The attacks used the.pdf file attachment option by using emails and leveraged the Google Cloud’s App engine. Emails are legitimate with the malware by "real" sources.

This malware used to save the.pdf document on the cloud services. If that happens so it won’t do any good. As for Netskope, infected file will be recognized and prevent all the effects from that. One of the researchers from the Netskope named Ashwin Vamshi said that the attack is live on the internet and its crushing the internet.

The main thing is identifying the threat, becoming harder and harder day by day. The Researcher said "people who do all this stuff becoming clever at using the tricks and spreading the malicious stuff around" to SDxCentral. "Training users to recognize the difference between a legitimate link and a malicious link is becoming increasingly difficult — with this example, they now have to be aware of common open redirects and inspect URL parameters to understand the provenance of a link. This makes even savvy users vulnerable."

It’s not like magic where you just do thing by snap of fingers. People need to be aware of these kinds of things so that they can avoid. Netskope even provide the 10 recommendations for users to maintain the security, you can check the source URL to learn about the recommendation.

McAfee found Ransomeware - www.mcafee.com/activate

Last-to-last Monday, McAfee reported about Anatova (Ransomeware) which is the name used for Ransome note. It already had been found around at 10 countries. If you will any more specific so these are the countries.

List of countries:

  • Sweden
  • Netherlands
  • Turkey
  • Italy
  • Russia
  • UK (United Kingdom)
  • France
  • Germany
  • Belgium
  • United States
  • McAfee’s Lead Scientist Christiaan Meek told SDxCentral "From our telemetry and visibility we saw hundreds of possible infections that we blocked globally since we put in detection immediately when we discovered it that said we expect that there have been victims infected with this new family of ransomware."

The McAfee scientist described that how all this crap works "Anatova makes a few checks to make sure it is not run in a sandbox or the victim is not from a certain country, It will look for files smaller than 1MB but makes sure not to disrupt the operating system. It also checks for network shares and will try to encrypt files in those locations too. After encrypting, the ransom-note is written to the system."

Meek also described that how it clean all the footsteps "It will than clean the memory so no keys can be dumped and overwrites the backup-files (Volume Shadow copies) 10 times to make sure that no backup of local files is possible, The user has to click on the executable to activate it."

It also elaborate the things with an example: "A modular approach means that the actors can easily insert new features. For example, an exploit to distribute it over the network, change the behavior of the ransomware while it is running."

So it’s becoming more important to keep aware of digital things that we use. We also need to be take care of the security and keep that up-to-date. There is no need for such technical skills to keep update yourself and security that you use.

If you don’t know any of this stuff so simply just checks www.mcafee.com/activate. You will have all the answer that you are looking for.
