There are many different games that you can play with a dartboard and some darts. With a simple Google search, it's easy to find rules for many different variations. The variety is great for keeping it fun and fresh.

Is Darts a Safe Game for the Home?

If you have kids, chances are, your first thoughts about darts involve safety. Yes, the steel-tipped darts can be dangerous and should be used with caution. But soft-tipped darts are an excellent alternative, and they are actually more popular for home use. The soft-tipped darts won't ruin your walls (although you should still use a dartboard surround for protection), and they're also safer in terms of injuries to people. While you still need to play with caution, soft-tipped darts will cause far less damage and injury as compared to the steel-tipped version.

One of the great things about darts is that you don't need much of anything. It's not like pool where you'll need to invest thousands of dollars for a table, balls, and cues. If you have a dartboard and some darts you can start playing. Some dartboards even come with a set of darts. Those darts are usually cheap, so if you like the game and you want to play it frequently, you may want to purchase your own darts and flights. It doesn't have to cost a lot of money, but you'll get more accuracy with your throws.

If you're not sure what type of dartboard to buy, I recommend an electronic dartboard for home use. Electronic dartboards will be used with soft-tipped darts, so it's safer. Another nice perk is that most electronic dartboards automatically keep score for you, and some of them have multiple different games built in. If you have a safe place to play and no kids in the house, a bristle dartboard and steel-tipped darts is also an option.
