Linksys smart wireless repeaters (extenders) are the networking devices, specially designed to tackle the brain-teaser and annoying issue of dead spots/ blind zones, present in the existing WiFi network. Linksys WiFi range extender setup amplifies the internet signal coming from the main WiFi or networking router, before sending it to other WiFi-enabled or client devices.

Due to this amplification, the strength of the existing WiFi range and internet signal to withstand against penetration (go into or through something) losses gets improved and makes the internet range approachable to far corner of the house. Range extenders are also known as wireless repeaters, signal/ WiFi boosters, range expanders that help in covering those areas that are declared as dead zones and blind spots.

Linksys Wireless-N WiFi range extender lets you replicate (repeat) the wireless signal of the access point or the main router to provide best and uninterrupted internet connectivity in hard to reach areas through a safe and secure network (wireless or wired connection). This tutorial will guide you on how to configure your WiFi range extender manually.

Before you begin with the Linksys extender setup process, ensure that you have done the following:

First of all, you have to identify the wireless settings of router/ access point that are:

  • Wireless network name (SSID).

  • Wireless channel.

  • Wireless password (passphrase).

Reset the Linksys Range Expander

Press and hold the Reset button (located at the top panel) on your range extender for a few seconds. When the LED on it starts blinking, release the button.

Step 1

Connect your computer or a laptop to the Ethernet port of your Linksys range extender using a USB/ Ethernet cable.

Step 2:

Plug your Linksys device into the power outlet and also make sure that the LED lights on it are stable.

Step 3:

To access the Linksys smart WiFi login page, launch a web browser and enter extender.linkys.com into the address bar field. If you Can’t connect to Linksys Extender, then ask us immediately for Extender.linksys.com Support at 1-844-726-2255 (toll-free number).

Step 4:

Now, onto the displayed page, you will be prompt for a default login credentials (username and password). Fill them carefully and click on Log In.

Step 5:

Click on Wireless> Basic Wireless Settings and set the radio button to Manual. Also, enter your router’s SSID (network name).

If you are facing in following the aforementioned steps, feel free to interact with us anytime.

Step 7:

After that, on Wireless Security section, select the security settings that match with your main router’s configuration.

WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode

Enter your router’s security key (password) into the passphrase key.

WPA Personal or WPA2 Personal

Enter your networking router’s password into the passphrase key.

WEP

Enter your router’s WEP key into the Key 1 field.

Once done, click on save settings.

WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy whereas WPA stands for Wireless Protected Access. WPA2 is known as the second version of WPA standard. Making use of some encryption is better than using none. WEP is the least secure of these standards. You must not use it if you can avoid it.

QUICK TIP: For optimal Wireless-N performance, it is advised to use WPA/WPA2 wireless security on your main router and Linksys WiFi range extender.

Step 8:

Unplug the power cables of your Linksys range extender and the main WiFi router as well for a couple of seconds. Plug in your main router first and after a couple of minutes plug in your Linksys device.

Good Job! Your Linksys wireless repeater has successfully been synchronized with the existing WiFi router.
