Digital signage simply means that it is a system that is controlled centrally, and distributes content digitally to a single display, or a large array of displays. Digital signage screens have a wide number of uses and are beneficial for relaying different types of data such as news, television programs, flights, menus, advertisements, live weather, and calendars. However, these are not the only use cases of digital signage. Rather, it carries a vast number of use cases and its implications are almost endless.

Digital signage advertising is perhaps, the most common application of digital signage. For instance, a display screen inside a restaurant can be used to display the menu and deals based on the time of the day and the calendar. For instance, such display screens could advertise all the breakfast deals in a restaurant during breakfast time. Similarly, they may advertise all the dinner deals during dinner time. Another example of digital signage advertising would be the display screens in supermarkets and shopping malls that display promotions.

The formal definition of digital signage could be explained as one form of an electronic screen display that shows a range of electronic media such as advertisements, information, menus, television, and more. Normally, these displays use the plasma, LED, or LCD technology.

The usage of digital signage is not limited to a single industry or two. Rather, it is used in a wide array of industries in the most eye-catching and prominent manner. For instance, retailers tend to make use of the digital signage advertisement inside their shops in order to promote special stock. Similarly, the universities and schools/colleges, use them to provide communication messages for the students and the staff. Similarly, such screens are also commonly seen in banks and hospitals, that notify the people waiting in line about their waiting status.

One of the major reasons why digital signage has come so popular is that it allows a distinct level of customer engagement in a very effective way. As compared to static signage that includes static print media, digital signage actually allows customers to stay focused by grabbing their attention away. After all, images that are moving with highly striking graphics carry the ability to catch everyone’s attention. Moreover, digital signage screens that have messages changing quickly look more updates and authentic. However, too many frequent flashes of messages can have the negative effect of being too distracting.

Moreover, a digital signage advertising network comes in a wide range of complexities. For instance, they can be very simple or extremely complex. It may also scale from a single screen up to two or three screens. This number can go up as high as you can handle. At the same time, the zoning features make it possible for a user to send identical content to every screen in the network. This is especially beneficial in case the same message has to be advertised throughout the venue. The most befitting example of this would be the menu of a restaurant, which remains constant throughout the venue.
