Introduction:

Brain games are exercises that are designed to improve brain functioning and personality. These maintain and enhance the activity of the brain bringing about an increase in a person’s memory power. Brain games include puzzles and other computer games that require you to think quickly. The brain requires oxygen for proper functioning and research suggests that playing brain games speeds up the pace of oxygen that has to reach the brain thus improving cognitive functioning. Continuing to play games can thus improve not only your memory but also thinking skills, non-verbal and verbal reasoning skills, visual reasoning, attention, response time and concentration.

The computer based games are very interesting and help in shaping your personality. Here are a few things that brain games improve about a person:

  • Bring out the competitor in you:

These games are designed such that you either win or lose. They enable you to think quickly and come with time limits so if you are not able to complete the task within the given time you lose. Once you begin playing these games you develop a healthy competitive spirit and try to win every time you play. This spirit is thus inculcated in you and becomes part of your personality. When you are running the race of life, you will have to take many such decisions and brain games like these will help you be a better competitor in the long run.

  • Drives you to win every challenge:

People who play brain games regularly tend to make fewer mistakes and are quick in their decisions as well as actions. Thinking and strategizing are two important actions that mark a winner. While playing brain games, the mind has to develop different strategies in order to complete the tasks. This quickens the brain’s capacity to think and strategize hence making it easy for the person to win every time he competes.

  • Improves critical and analytical thinking:

Such games make you think and analyze. In order to complete your task, you have to design a path which is why you need to take in all the information given to you and then create situations based on the information provided. You might have to analyze that information and manipulate it in order to find the solution. This is where your mind habituates in analyzing before jumping to a conclusion.

Conclusion:

Research shows that games not only improve skills like thinking, analyzing, strategizing and decision making but also develop other cognitive functions. A recent study showed that brain games help revive cognitive activities in cancer patients. Due to chemotherapy, patients suffering from cancer often lose their ability to remember also face speech impairment. It was observed that patients who played these games were seen to regain their thinking capacities.
