When Should You Replace Your Nissan Juke Brake Fluid?

How Does a Modern Braking System Work?
A hydraulic braking system will pump the brake fluid through the channel to convey energy from one point to another. In this case, that would be the pressure applied to the brake pedal and then conveyed to the brake caliper or cylinder. The hydraulic brake fluid is stored in the master cylinder, and then it travels along a brake line to the braking system itself.
The hydraulic pressure is applied differently depending upon the type of braking system fitted to the car. A brake caliper will be needed to allow both halves to be squeezed together to achieve the desired contact. If you have brake shoes, these will be expanded to make contact with the rotating drum that’s fixed to the wheel.
If you have disc brakes, the caliper will clamp the brake pad to the brake disc (rotor) that’s attached to each wheel. The amount of clamping pressure applied will determine the rate of the wheel rotation, as the pressure is increased more pressure is delivered, and the car will slow.
What is Brake Fluid?
Brake fluid in the past has been a term that could be applied to a wide variety of substances, such as glycol ether, silicon, mineral oil, alcohol, and even castor oil. All of these substances have a common property that makes them useful for braking; they all boil at a much higher level than water. A minimum temperature of 140ºC is ideal for a liquid that’s used as a braking fluid. When braking occurs, it can create a great deal of heat from the conversion of kinetic energy using friction. When brake fluid has a high boiling point under normal operating conditions, it will not compress or damage internal components with corrosion.
How Often Should Brake Fluid be Changed?
The exact intervals will be specified in your owner’s manual. However, most car manufacturers recommend that the system is drained, refilled and bled for bubbles every two years at least.
