If you’re feeling kind of like the Pillsbury Doughboy, all plump and soft, and you’re not happy about it, you might be making mistakes with your weight loss plans that could be adding the calories and fat instead of taking it off.

Try avoiding these common weight loss pitfalls and watch the unwanted pounds slowly melt off.

Treating Your Cell Phone Like an IV Hook-up

We live in a technology focused world. Everyone gets that. Unfortunately all those texts and phone chatting could be wreaking havoc with your ability to lose weight.

Many people use their Smartphone’s, especially if it’s an iPhone, as a source of music for when they’re at the gym. Going to the gym isn’t exactly fun and a series of great tunes can make the whole experience much more pleasant. But the problem with too many people is that they allow texts to distract them away from their actual exercise routine. If you’re fiddling around with your phone every couple of minutes to check the latest text or send one, you’re not as focused on your workout. And if you’re not as focused on your workout, you’re not working hard enough and getting your heart rate to a level that’s going to help you lose weight.

Skipping Breakfast

This one isn’t new. Dieticians have always been telling people eat, eat, eat your breakfast. And a good breakfast does not involve greasy bacon or sausage, tarlike coffee and a slice of nutrient-free white bread with pretend (read: processed) cheese on it.

When you don’t eat breakfast, your body is going to object. You’re going to feel hungry which is a sign to your body’s metabolism that you must be starving. So to prevent imminent death, your body automatically starts hoarding those fat cells you want to disappear.

If you have a full stomach, with nutrient-rich foods, your body doesn’t think it’s starving. It doesn’t feel the need to conserve all those fat stores and will automatically start burning fat, even if you’re doing everyday normal activities.

A Love Affair With Artificial Sweeteners

Do you think you’re doing your body a favor by eliminating actual sugar and reaching for the artificial sweeteners? Then you’re fooling yourself and could actually be doing something that increases your weight gain and reduces your weight loss.

No one is endorsing that you suck back those sweets. But if you’re going to indulge, it’s better for your body if you stick with the more natural sweeteners. Those tempting zero-calories sweeteners in those cute shades of blue and pink confuse your digestive system. And when your digestive system is all confused, it can’t burn calories as effectively. A confused digestive system could also mean that you may have increased food cravings which, if you give in to them, are going to lead to weight gain but not weight loss.

Is there science behind this theory? Why, yes, there is. There is a study in Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior where rats who guzzled on high fructose corn syrup gained more weight, especially around the belly region, than rats that had the same amount of calories without artificial sweeteners.

If you’re having a hard time controlling your craving and based in Arizona, AZ Weight Loss Clinics might give you additional tips.
