Power Transformer lies at the heart of every linear power supply. The task of the Power Transformer is to take the AC main supply voltage and convert it into one or more AC voltage as per the applicational need. Hence, it will provide low voltage for the heaters of the valve amplifier and high voltage for the anode supply. The Power Transformer operates at very high operating voltages. A variety of Power Transformer is used in different industries having different features and advantages. So, let us look at the types of Power Transformer:

Uses Of Various Types Of Power Transformers:

  • Resonant transformer

It is a type of the leakage transformer, which utilizes the leakage inductance of the secondary winding along with the external capacitor to form the resonant circuits. The tesla coil is capable of producing high voltages and supply high currents as compared to the electrostatic high voltage generation machines.

  • Leakage transformer

Also referred to as the stray-field transformer, it has comparatively higher leakage inductance than the other type of transformers. The inductance can be increased occasionally through the magnetic thrust or bypass in its primary and secondary core. It can be adjusted with the help of the screw from time to time. Its main application is in the high voltage discharge lamps and arc welding machines.

  • Instrument transformer

It is required for the efficient performance of the transmission system. It is used to transform high current and voltage to standardized low and easily measurable values. Moreover, it is used for measuring the current and voltage in the electrical power systems, safely separating the secondary control circuitry from the high voltage and current. In this type, the primary winding is connected to the high current or voltage circuit while the relay or meter is connected to secondary circuit.

  • Autotransformer

This small, light, and cheap transformer comprises of one winding, in which the parts of the single winding operates as primary and secondary winding. Due to its compact size, it has an advantage over the typical dual winding type. Lower leakage reactance, lower excitation current, lower losses, and increased KVA rating are some of the added advantages of the Autotransformer.

Besides the above-mentioned type of the Power Transformer, the other types of transformer are Polyphase transformer and Audio transformer. The Polyphase Transformer is used for three-phase supplies while the Audio Transformer is used in audio circuits. The Power Transformer Manufacturers in Mumbai offer the Power Transformer in various frequency, voltage, and physical sizes. But, to ensure its efficiency, it is important to choose a reliable manufacturer. For more. information please visit: http://www.urjatransformers.co.in
