Most tourists first coming into the Water City are usually in a hurry to get straight from Venice airport to Venice. After all, the city's reputation precedes it, and it is entirely understandable that many tourists will be eager to see whether or not the actuality of the location lives up to it. As such, many travellers first arriving at Marco Polo Airport barely waste any time in hopping on their transfer and taking off to discover Piazza San Marco or the Grand Canal.

And yet, those who are willing to do so may discover that the town in which the airport itself sits is, in its own right, quite charming. Visitors to the area who are not in any particular hurry should, therefore, take the time to have a wander around Tessera before embarking on their shuttle service from Venice airport to Venice.

The Town Of Tessera

The town of Tessera is a perfect example of the kind of small, unassuming suburb that lies just on the outskirts of the heavily touristy City of Canals. Known mostly for housing the airport itself, this town’s entire economy understandably revolves around it; that is not to say, however, that this location is entirely devoid of charm, as guests who take the time to visit it are bound to discover.

Aside from the airport, Tessera’s main claim to fame is its restaurants. Ranging from eateries serving traditional Sardinian food to modern, sophisticated complexes combining the eating experience with a pool and other amenities, the range of options where visitors can get food in this small town is enough to cater to most tastes. Those who wish to purchase their own food and drink for later consumption may also do so, as the town does offer a liquor shop with a good selection of wines and other drinks.

Other than its eateries and places to drink, Tessera is mostly known for its hotels, of which there are unsurprisingly many. Most of these are the usual fare that surrounds transit ports, but a couple exhibit sufficient charisma to potentially interest guests unable to immediately get to their transfer from Venice airport to Venice.

Another perk of staying in Tessera is that it provides tourists interested in visiting the city with much cheaper accommodation than they would find in the town centre, whilst still boasting sufficient transportation links to make trips to and from the centre easy and hassle-free.

It is clear, then, that while not particularly rich in landmarks, Tessera should not be ignored. It deserves a second look from tourists wanting to stay in an accessible and affordable location while visiting the area, or simply to spend a night before hopping on a transfer from Venice airport to Venice.
