Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

This premier cultural venue was founded in the 1900s to mark the visit of the Prince of Wales, and was formerly named after him. The museum features stunning architecture with Indo-Saracenic styles and houses 50,000 artefacts and relics from several centuries, with a collection comprising of terracotta’s, sculptures, bronzes, miniature paintings and porcelain. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya also has a separate natural history section.

National Gallery of Modern Art

The National Gallery of Modern Art is a fine venue that showcases a vast collection of around 17,000 artworks, ranging from modern art to masterpieces dating back to the 1850s. Artworks displayed here include miniature paintings, modernist art, sculptures, graphics and photographs. This excellent museum also features exhibits from famous native and international artists, including Pablo Picasso, M.F. Hussain and Raja Ravi Verma.

Nehru Centre

Nehru Centre is an enthralling cultural complex comprising of an art gallery with graphics, sculptures, calligraphy, paintings, ceramics and photography, a culture wing which organises a host of performing arts programmes, a planetarium that teaches you about astronomy with interactive activities and a permanent ‘Discovery of India’ exposition which introduces you to the true cultural identity, philosophy and history of India with various artworks, artifacts and dioramas.

Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum

The Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum once served as the residence for Mahatma Gandhi in the 1900s, and is now an interesting museum that highlights the famous figure’s life and what Mumbai was like to live in during the independence movement. This iconic building is home to a library with some of Gandhi’s works and an auditorium with films and recordings of his speeches, as well as photos, posters and various other artefacts.
