Washington DCstill ranks as a top location to hold events, no matter the political climate. Though it seems vast, the downtown area is compact and quite walkable. Access to hotels near Washington convention center is available via public transportation, as well. In addition, attendees are close to the federal offices and representatives who can assist them with policies or funding.

Tips for a successful business event

While it's a prime location, you simply can't book an event on the fly. Whether it's for 50 or 500 attendees, steps must be taken to ensure guests are accommodated, comfortable, and able to get to the event location on time.

Here are three tips to help you create a successful business event.

Book very early

A year out isn't too early to book something in the nation's capital. In fact, booking a bit earlier is probably a good idea. There are a few reasons for this.

First, you have a wider view of upcoming parades, protests, holiday celebrations, and other special events. This allows you to change your date or plan accordingly for street closures and extra security. For instance, booking during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival or around July 4th is not recommended.

Second, accommodations are freed up. Take the Grand Hyatt Washington for example. Located in the heart of the downtown area, this Hyatt is a prime stop for tourists, politicians, and other business people. And during peak times it can be at capacity for several weeks in a row. By booking early you not only get the rooms you want but also the potential for discounts.

Make the event easy to get to

Downtown Washington DC is not the easiest to drive. While other cities in the U.S. are laid out in a grid pattern, the capital added several major diagonal streets during its creation. Furthermore, access to those streets is hampered by large buildings, like the Capitol. Thus, it can be confusing for someone who has never been there.

To correct this, make sure your business event is held in a location easily accessible by the District’s public transportation system -- preferably, to a Metro subway station. This is a convenient way for attendees coming in from the airport or the suburbs surrounding Washington DC to arrive comfortably instead of frazzled. Plus, it's a less expensive way to get to and from the event without paying parking fees or potentially getting ticketed.

Allow time for touring

Would you hold an event in Las Vegas and not leave time for gambling or a show? The same can be said for Washington DC. While you may have a large agenda to cover for your event, leave some time for attendees to be tourists.

DC is one of the rare cities where most of the attractions are free to the public. So, if you hold a business event where the goal is to move products, more money will be spent there rather than the museums or memorials. Not only does this allow you to succeed but it also allows those who come to the event to feel refreshed each day.

Do you have an idea for a business event to be held in Washington DC? Then take these tips into consideration before you reserve your space. When you do so you'll have an event that draws the desired crowd, increases your revenue, and gives people a chance to see an amazing city.
