There are five important things you need to know before going into a job interview.

Five Things to Know Before Going into a Job Interview

Work It Daily, a company that offers career coaching, says the most vital information one should know before going into the interview is the mission and vision of the company. (Work It, 2019) Employers want to see that you share their vision and understand their mission. If you take the time to learn these things it will make a lasting impression. While completing your research, look at the job in which you are applying and know the language used in this position. Use keywords during the interview.

Know what needs to be in your portfolio. According to Forbes, you should make several copies of your resume for the portfolio. (Ryan, 2018) If you do not have a portfolio then make one. Have a cover letter, resume, certificates, and any examples of work samples that would be relevant to the position in which you are applying.

Interviews want to know that you are as interested in them as they are in you. They do expect you to have some questions. This shows that you have looked at the company and are willing to learn more. Make a list of three to five questions to ask about the position or the company before going into the interview. They will be impressed that you are prepared.

The strengths and weaknesses question are the most difficult. It is okay to state what you are good at, they want to know but make sure when you state your weaknesses, do it in a positive way. Know how to do this before going to your interview and then make a mental note for yourself. This will save you some time and embarrassment, trying to figure out what to say at the moment.

Prepare your references before the interview. Let them know that they may be contacted so they can be prepared as well.

Many technical interviews are completed in steps. (Bradford, 2019) First is the phone screening to check your qualifications. Next is most likely a coding interview. This could be a conference call or Skype. Study the latest coding and lingo before this interview. Last is the face to face interview. Prepare some examples of projects you have worked on.
