It is believed that description of a process for appropriate implementation as well as execution is of utmost importance. In order to achieve the objectives in the best possible manner, it is considered essential that one must do appropriate planning; make use of FMEA software for risk assessment, analysis of quality and the way to make improvement in it, etc.

Meaning of control plan:

A document that is used for describing the quality process control items, reaction plan and control methods is known as a control plan. It is a plan that is used for controlling the processes of production/service, so as to assure that the service, product and requirements are met. It is also termed as the methodology for documentation of control plan document.

It is primarily used for structuring information for process control. It helps the process owner for the numerous reasons:

  • Easily control the performance of a process.
  • Easily determine the characteristics when there is a change in a process.

What is the appropriate time for creation of a control plan??

It is said that a control plan must be created before the beginning of the designing phase and completion of the trial production. It is believed that whenever there is a change in the process or product life cycle, the information pertaining to the input also changes. It is suggested that a team must always update the control plan, in order to reflect the measurement system as well as the current methods of control. It is also termed as a living document.

Types of control plan:

A living document is of different types. This is typically categorized on the basis of the maturity level of the process in the lifecycle of a product. It is believed that a company can define its scope of output by appropriately determining a living document.

  • Prototype control plan: This is used for describing the process. It is said that the control needs to be conducted as well as completed during the prototypes of manufacturing.
  • Pre-launch control plan: This is used for describing a process. In this, the control needs to be conducted and completed during the trial process.
  • Production control plan: This is used for describing a process, when the control is conducted and completed during the mass production.

How is a control plan linked with other documents??

It is said that a control plan also known as a living document is not an only document in the product as well as process cycle. In order to make it consistent with other documents, the items in it must be linked with the corresponding items in the other documents.

It is believed that these plans provide a detailed written description of the mechanisms and the systems, so as to reduce the product as well as the process variation. It also steps to key inspection and control activities. It keeps the status of all the important characteristics.
