Top Things to See & Do when Visiting St Lucia
Posted: Jun 19, 2014
St Lucia is one of the Caribbean's top destinations. Not only is it incredibly beautiful, but it also has a large number of things to see and do to keep you busy if you don't want to spend your whole time lying on the beaches - beautiful as they may be! When you are selecting a destination for your luxury hotel, Caribbean islands are sometimes hard to choose between. However, you cannot go wrong with St Lucia. Here are some of the highlights to enjoy when you are here.
The Pitons
The Pitons are two large and very beautiful volcanic peaks on St Lucia. It is easy to get to this UNESCO World Heritage Site for yourself, and many people travel to see them on a day trip to simply admire their beauty. However, for the more adventurous, there is also the opportunity to hike to the top with a guide; this is well worth doing if you are feeling energetic and want to enjoy a spectacular view.
Soufriere Volcano
There are not many places where you can get so close to a live volcano in complete safety, but St Lucia is one of them. Soufriere Volcano will definitely be one of the highlights of your stay, and accessing it is easy from your luxury hotel. Caribbean destinations are renowned for their natural attractions, and this is one of the best of the lot.
You can drive right up to the volcano and see the boiling mud bubbling away as you watch the steam rising, and you can also enjoy its reputed therapeutic properties.
Castries
Castries is the main town in St Lucia, and it is a lovely place to explore on foot. There are a few things of interest to see here, including Fort Charlotte, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the City Library. There are also some beaches, including Choc Beach and Vigie Beach.
Pigeon Island National Park
This park is a National Landmark and it is a great place to explore on foot. It is located in the north of the island, and you will also be able to visit the 18th century Fort Rodney, built by Admiral George Rodney.
Activities
There are so many things to do on St Lucia during a stay in a luxury hotel. Caribbean destinations offer great diving, and St Lucia is no different. Anse La Raye is a top spot to dive and you'll see shipwrecks and tropical sea creatures in the wonderfully clear waters.Trekking is also popular in the interior of the island and, if you visit from May to November, you may be able to join a whale watching tour to spot Humpback whales.
See It All
This gorgeous island really is one of the best destinations for a holiday in the region, especially if you want to stay in a luxury hotel. Caribbean islands have it all in terms of scenery, weather and attractions, but St Lucia remains one of the best options.
