Exploring the Many Attractions of St Lucia
Posted: Jun 19, 2014
You may have seen holidays advertised on the island of St. Lucia at magnificent resort locations like the world-famous Cap Maison. The Caribbean, and in particular St. Lucia, has a long history of being associated with luxury holidays. It’s particularly popular for weddings and honeymoons, but it’s also known, of course, as a major cruise ship destination.
Reasons to love St. Lucia
In the case of weddings, it’s hard to imagine anywhere that could be more idyllic. Stunningly beautiful beaches, majestic mountains and guaranteed great weather (well, more or less anyway) are certainly part of the picture in every sense, including the literal.Yet to that you need to add a certain exotic ambience that’s hard to describe. It’s partly the friendliness of the people, partly the cultural background of the island with its mix of French, British and African, and partly just something that’s ‘indefinable’. If you like exotic and beautiful holiday destinations then you’ll love St. Lucia and its incredible accommodation, like that available at Cap Maison.
The cruise ship side is sometimes something of a worry to potential visitors who have never visited the island before. However, this is over-stated. True, the big harbour side tourist spots of Castries and Soufrière can be busy for short periods if a liner docks, but if you’re staying somewhere like Cap Maison, that’s not going to affect you at all.
Some visitors considering their first trip to St. Lucia also wonder whether this relatively small island will have enough to keep them occupied. Once again, you don’t have to worry! History abounds here in places like Rodney Island - if you do ever get bored with the scenery and beaches. You can also visit the rainforest in the island’s interior, the mud and sulphur pools of the now dormant volcano at Soufrière, or take in a tour of one of the sugar plantations, like Anse Mamin. There are also the diamond mineral baths, where you’ll find a small waterfall, as well as the Rainforest Oasis spa, where you’ll be able to recover some of that energy you’ve lost in your normal day-to-day life. The bottom line is pretty clear – you won’t have to worry about being bored on this island.
So, when all is said and done, is St. Lucia for you? Well, it’s comparatively rare to find anyone who would say ‘no’ after visiting the island. It probably suits discerning holidaymakers seeking a little pampering rather more than those looking for 24/7 dynamic riotous action. It’s absolutely fabulous for couples, younger and older families, as well as couples who have offloaded the kids and are seeking a little respite and self-indulgent luxury. By contrast, a gang of 20 year olds heading off to the sun for mayhem might find it a little too reserved and calm. So, if you’re in one of the former categories, then St. Lucia and, in particular, the delights of Cap Maison might just be for you.
