Albeit it is arguable to proclaim that English grammar is not that crucial in the long term when it comes to speaking English.

Whilst it can be said that grammar is important for speaking perfect English as you can form sentences more effectively and wrong grammar or incorrect word forms can even ruin the conversation, moreover make it complicated for the person you are speaking to, to understand you.

However, it is equally false to conclude that without perfect grammar you can’t speak English fluently and convey your ideas to anyone as it is nearly impossible for anyone to master perfect grammar.

The only purpose of grammar is to help you frame sentences the right way and has nothing to do with your fluency in general.

It is often suggested that in order to improve your English speaking skills, you should not pay much attention to your grammar and invest your time learning the rules as there are more than thousands of grammar rules. Learning this great deal of rules can only turn the task of speaking complex as you’ll extra cautious about not to make any mistakes.

This can also result to lose your flow of words and speak English hesitantly. Hence, only a little or say 10%-20% knowledge about grammar is sufficient to speak English fluently. This level of grammar is taught to you in your primary classes. Keep in mind, this much basic knowledge is crucial and anyhow can’t be ignored.

In the very beginning, you’ll assuredly make a few grammatical mistakes while speaking English and that’s purely acceptable, however gradually talking with English speakers and listening to them can make you learn the correct use of word forms.

To make it more clear, just consider a sentence which is grammatically wrong, yet can convey the speaker’s idea to the end listener,

"I leave early evening today."

Although there is a grammatical error in the sentence, still listener can understand and get the idea of what the speaker is trying to convey. The correct sentence should be like

"I’d prefer to leave early this evening."

Or

"I’d leave early this evening."

This clearly brings forward the reality that even with a little knowledge about grammar, you can convey your insights and make the person understand what you are trying to say.

Grammar mistakes are very much acceptable, especially if you are a beginner. Even most of the English native speakers commit grammar mistakes when they converse in English.

That being the case, if you already know the basics of English grammar then you should focus more attention on your spoken English. You can always leave grammar as for now and come back to it later ( after achieving fluency in English).

You should concentrate on more of speaking activities which can be done by reading out loud, speaking with English speakers and experts around you, listening to English songs and sing them loudly(trying to understand the meaning of the lyrics and new words you come over).
