FIX 1: Check Hosts Files

For Windows users

  1. Go to C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/ and locate the file 'hosts'
  2. Open the file in Notepad with Administrator Rights. Look for 208.105.171 gs.apple.com line at the bottom
  3. Once you find the line add # in the beginning #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
  4. If the address line is not present, add the line 208.105.171 gs.apple.com in the host file
  5. Save the hosts file by clicking on the File menu and select 'Save'
  6. Connect your iPhone to the PC and update through iTunes. The iTunes error 3194 should be resolved now.

For Mac users

  1. In the Finder, select Applications> Utilities
  2. Open Terminal
  3. Type the command sudo nano /private/etc/hosts and press Return
  4. Enter the password to sign in to your Mac and press Return. The host's file is displayed
  5. Add the # with space to the beginning of entry apple.com
  6. Press Control-O to save the file
  7. Press Return when asks for the file name
  8. Press Control-X to exit the editor
  9. Restart your Mac
  10. Connect your iPhone to the computer and try to update or restore via iTunes

Review the host's file and delete line 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com again after you have finished youriOS update error fixing 3194. This is necessary to update your iTunes normally in the future and will not generate errors when you install or update your iOS on your iPhone or iPad.

FIX 2: Use Correct Firmware Version, if Updating iPhone Manually
