Metric thread gauge helps in identifying size and thread pitch of bolts, nuts or screws. These thread gauges are manufactured as per metric sizing. They have a solid steel thread checker on the wire lanyard. The good quality metric thread gauges should be chemical resistant. These gauges are used in various industries. These metric gauges are used to gauge metric sizes. While using a thread gauge, we need to screw a fastener in the slot. This will help determine thread pitch and diameter or size of the nut, bolt or screw. It can also be used to measure nuts or washers by using knobs that are placed on the opposite end of the thread gauge.

A thread ring gauge is a cylindrical shaped ring that is manufactured using a material that is stable thermally. The inside diameter of tolerance of gauge and it is used to check external diameter of cylindrical objects. The thread ring gauges are employed for the comparative gauging. They can be used for calibrating, checking and setting of gauges.

Thread Ring Gauges check major diameter or outside diameter and pitch diameter limit as well. There are multiple types of thread ring gauges available in the market. They are ACME gauge, Straight Pipe gauge and taper pipe styles.

The adjustable style thread ring gauges are used through a slot in the ring. This slot allows calibrating these gauges to setting plug. With help of setting plug, we can determine if gauge is within the tolerance limits. It also helps users determine accuracy of gauges. Users can tune the gauge to setting plug which lowers production costs. This way life of gauges can also be increased.

Thread gauging practice is very useful in manufacturing industry. There are several features involved in the threaded part. The first one is the major diameter of the thread. The minor diameter and the pitch diameter are other characteristics. In case of meter thread gauge, the pitch or threads per inch and the flank angle are also key characteristics.

A GO/ NO-GO thread gauge is another important type of thread gauge. It works on the idea that if GO gauge is answered and a NO-GO gauge is not answered, threaded part can be accepted. Gauge inspects threaded part based on pitch diameter. If, for screws, thread major diameter and for the nuts, minor diameter is critical, we need to use separate GO/ NO-GO gauges.

The thread ring gauge is available in various sizes and standardization. This is governed by ASME/ANSI B1.2. The accuracy of thread rings is of utmost importance. These gauges can be calibrated using a screw. By turning adjusting screw anti-clockwise and rotating ring on seating plug, we can understand if it is accurate enough. The ring should have noticeable drag when it is rotated on set plug.
