The Bibi ka Maqbara was built in the year 1660, around 400 years ago. Considered as remembrance symbol of inspiration and love, the mausoleum today stands as an epitome of undying love and still shows the expression of beauty through its architectural impressions.

Aurangzeb wanted to build a monument that will look like and resemble the Taj Mahal of Agra as the Taj Mahal was the mausoleum of his mother, Mumtaz Mahal. It is considered as the largest monument that was built under the era of Aurangzeb.

History of Dilras Begum

This story is like a fairy-tale. Born into the royal family of Safavid in Iran, the princess Dilras Banu was the daughter of viceroy Shahnawaz Khan, the viceroy of Gujarat. After becoming the wife of Aurangzeb, they had five kids. When she delivered the fifth kid, she died. When Aurangzeb and his eldest son heard the news, they were grief-stricken. In the year of 1668, the son and father started the construction of Bibi Ka Maqbara for Dilras.

It is believed that the Marble used in the construction of Bibi Ka Maqbara was sourced from the marble mines in Jaipur and this marble was carried on ox carts from Jaipur to Aurangabad at Maharashtra. At the time, the cost estimated to build this monument was around 7 Lakhs.
