Why do businesses have websites? The goal of a business website goes much beyond that simply providing information about the kind of business they are, who they are and other such informational elements. People do business to make money. That is what is the foundation of any business. You may have a lot of people telling you to stand out among the crowd but you know deep down that no matter what fantastic product or service you offer, you still want your website design to appeal to the majority of the visitors.

So what do you do? You go ahead and install analytical codes on your website and monitor the high and lows of visitors engagement. You monitor the spike in traffic and you monitor what users do on your website - all to figure out what works best and what needs to change. But do you think sometimes that your website is built for all in mind? Do you feel that accessibility plays a crucial role in determining the success of a website?

There are people in the world who are struggling with physical challenges. There are people who are blind, colourblind, who are struggling with the variations of light on screen, then there people who are deaf or cannot read the sentences properly, are dyslexic or they are mentally weak to understand the finer nuances of a website's navigation. Do you feel that you have them all accounted for when building a website?

As a web design company in Mumbai we feel that it is important to address these ideas as they undoubtedly come up on the surface time to time. It is important that these are addressed suitably so that the next time you build your website, you keep these demographics in mind so as to help ease their problems in accessing a website.

We have a few tips and pointers we want to share with you so that you can try to incorporate these while designing and building your next website.

  1. Keep things simple and plain: There is no real need to go all flashy and extravagant when it comes to web design. People come to your website to look for information, to gather data about what work you do and to get in touch with you. That is the primary aim. You can cut out the dancing letters and the over the top flashy font design to keep things neat and plain. That wins any day.
  2. Choose your web colours correctly: Having appropriate website colours is very important. Again, don't go ballistic with neon green and hot pink. You don't want to trouble people who have normal eyesight and you don't don't want to aggravate the situation for those suffering from eye ailments. Cool, muted, toned down colours work best.
  3. Use proper SEO such as meta data and alt-tags: For those who "read" the website using screen readers, this is especially helpful as those readers not only read the text but also what the images are all about. Images are supposed to be uploaded with the correct accompanying alt-tags so that these readers can read out what those images are. Ensure that you do proper SEO for those less fortunate who may be blind or colorblind and not able to see what images you have used.

Doing a little bit on this part will ensure that your web design remains inclusive for a much wider demographic and that you are not losing out potential customers. A good web design goes beyond what is generally seen on the internet and having an understanding of such outlying audiences will help reign in more customers.
