The meaning of CAD is Computer Aided Designing/ Drafting.

In a simple way we can say that CAD is used for computers designing. It is also called CADD, an acronym that stands for computer aided designing and drafting. In CAD the wide range of computer based tools are used and they assist engineers, architects and other design professional to help in their activities.

It originate as computer aided drafting tools and it was replace to traditional drafting board. Now these days it is called designing to show the fact that quite a more can be done with the help of computer besides drafting. The CAD is used when the simple drafting is not able to work. It designs automobiles, design of ships, airplanes and other industrial designs.

A CAD responsibility is: 2D and 3D design, detailing, drafting surface design and all types of sheet metal.

CAD is working on the CAD software, the example of CAD software is: Autodesk Auto CAD, Autodesk Fusion, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, NXCAD, Solid Works, Solid Edge and Creo (formerly ProEngineer)

The advantage of applying CAD techniques

It increase the efficiency of the designer, the programmer allow to the developer in imagining the finak creation that is to become, it subassemblies and constituent areas. They can also given animation and see how the actual item will work. It helps the developer to immediately make modification if they are needed. All of these factors help in significantly improving the efficiency of the developer and they translate into fast developing. They help to complete lower developing cost and short projects completion on times.

The meaning of CAM is Computer Aided Manufacturing.

The CAM for computer based tools it helps to engineers, tool and die makers and CNC machinists to the making and crating of prototypes of product components. CAD has many functions they do not involve in CAM. CAM is dependent upon CAD.

A CAM responsibility is: The manufacturing process after design by using G code and M code, tuming, milling, tapping, cutting, drilling, boring and multiple operations perform on CAM software.

The CAM software example is: Edge CAM, MasterCAM, NX CAM, CAMWorks, and NX CAM. The most of the CAD software have CAM module too.

The difference of CAD and CAM: The CAD and CAM both are important process that is refer to as a computer aided engineering (CAE). The CAD and CAM both have similar advantages and they render items in 2D or 3D. CAD and CAM both are help in quick processing and production of any design that is conceptualized by a scientist team. The most of the CAM machines have inbuilt CAD software.

The main difference between CAD and CAM it lies in the end user. The CAM software is mostly used by an engineer and CAD is used by a trained machinist. These machinists are highly skilled and they are equivalent to a computer engineer.

In India there are so many institute are offering doing CAD and CAM course. You can select the course CAD or CAM whatever you like to do.
