Every food service business requires an efficient kitchen. The food service business is all about offering delicious and tasty food to the customers and to prepare the food a functional kitchen is needed. The quality of the service and food you offer depends significantly on the efficiency of the commercial kitchen.

When you design and build an industrial kitchen you have to make sure that it has everything that the business requires and you also have to think about the running cost of the kitchen. You should focus on the efficiency of service as well as the efficiency of other basic concepts of the industrial kitchen like power consumption, physical area, equipment, and employees.

Here are a few tips that are effective in reducing energy and maximizing the efficiency of a commercial kitchen.

Condensing the Cooking Area:

You should only invest in cooking equipment that is relevant to your menu so that the cooking area is not cluttered with equipment that you do not need. The equipment that you invest in should be used to its maximum productivity so that you can keep up with customer’s demands. Smaller equipment is an efficient option because it is used constantly. Instead of installing a big oven you fulfill the baking needs of the kitchen in a countertop oven. The small equipment offers energy efficiency and saves floor space as well without compromising the quality of service or food.

Ensure Linear Circulation:

You have to design the layout of the kitchen in a way that there is maximum linear circulation. All the activities in the kitchen should follow a straight line and there should be no interference in the way. If there is any interference or a turn then it will increase the distance between two places. The straight line helps in interconnecting places in the kitchen like connecting the preparation area with the cooking area. The linear circulation offers the shortest distance between two points which improve the efficiency of the kitchen and reduces chances of cross-contamination.

A Transport Trolley:

If you want to improve and multiply the capacity of cargo transport of any operation then you should invest in a transport trolley. The transport trolley can help in improving the efficiency of receiving, stocking and even food preparation operation.

The Stock:

The stock of the dry and perishable food should be stored with proper care because you do not want the food to go to waste. Preventing food waste is also helpful in improving the energy efficiency of the kitchen. If you have to choose between the vertical refrigerators and a cold room then the vertical refrigerator is a better option. It offers more operational flexibility and it is more effective in handling different temperatures than the cold rooms.

Well-Trained Staff:

Working in an industrial kitchen is not easy and if you want to run it efficiently then you have to train and retrain the staff. New technological advances are introduced all the time and the staff should be trained to handle the latest technology that you add to the kitchen.
