  • Map the Network Drive Again Through Command Prompt
  1. Find the Command Prompt located on the right-hand side of the Start menu, or you can do this procedure by pressing on the search option.
  2. You have to right-click on the result showing at the upper side of the display.
  3. After that, click the "Run as administrator" button.
  4. If you have an outdated version of Windows, then click on the Windows Logo and R keys together so that you will get the Run Prompt box.
  5. Enter "cmd" in the search bar.
  6. Click on the Control +Shift+ Enter keys together to open a Command Prompt window.
  7. Start copying and pasting the command which is mentioned below and ensures that you press on the Enter button on the system keyboard.

net use * /delete

8. Once you have finished the procedure as mentioned above successfully, open the below mentioned command:

net use Z: \\server\share /user:username password

  1. Ensure that you change the wrong username and password with the correct one.
  2. Now, you have to check whether you have successfully fixed the local device name is already in use issue.
  • Remove a Registry Keys
  1. Go to the Registry Editor menu by entering "regedit" in the Run prompt box, search bar and the start menu which can be done by pressing on the Windows and R keys together.
  2. Go through the below-mentioned key in the registry by going at the left-hand side panel:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

  1. Press on the key as mentioned above and search a key known as the MountPoints2 located in the Explorer key.
  2. You have to right-click on it, and after that, select the Delete button by going to the pop-up menu.
  3. Now, you need to check in case you have fixed the local device name is already in use error.
  • Assign a Drive Letter Correctly
  1. You don’t open the files which are located in the storage devices.
  2. Ensure that you don’t copy and move files from the hard disk.
  3. Then, click on the Windows and X keys together.
  4. Otherwise, you need to right-click on the Start option.
  5. Click on the Disk Management button to launch the console.
  6. You need to right-click on the volume button.
  7. Then, press on the Change option.
  8. After that, select the change option by going to the menu list of all the drive letters which are available now.
  9. Press on the Apply button and verify the prompt box that will show before exiting the tool window.
  10. Now, check you have fixed the local device name is already in use error or not.
