Crafts Business

Everyone is looking for ways to make a little side income these days. The average household income for most middle-class families has not moved for years while the cost of living has slowly been increasing.

There are many new startups out there are rely on this fact to source workers. Some examples of this include all the rideshare companies and grocery delivery services.

I’ve also seen a rise in small side craft business. A lot of people, particularly women, love to use their cutting machines to make small crafts that they sell at craft fairs and on sites like Etsy.

I wrote this article about the most profitable cricut business and it became an instant hit. I think people were hungry to figure out how to monetize off their hobby.

The Cricut is a great little invention that has helped many people create a little (and some times a lot) of side income. Its is a simple personal cutting machine which has been around for years. But a few years ago, a new CEO came into play and decided to really dig into marketing the business. Cricut now has a really strong eco-system of users, content creators, and promoters. There are countless Facebook groups dedicated to Cricut tips and best practices.

If you are new to the Cricut cutting machine, there are a wide selection of project types that can help you get started.

My favorites are paper crafts and specifically paper flowers. I have created a set of free rolled flower svg templates that can help you get started. These are fun easy projects that involved taking a strip of petals in a spiral shape and rolled it up into a flower.

These rolled paper flowers can be made for a variety of different materials. My favorite is cardstock but you can also use newspapers, magazine covers, streamer crepe paper and much more.

I love using these rolled paper flowers for all occasions. Sometimes I put them on gifts as additional accessories for the wrapping. Sometimes I add them to a shadow box. Other times I like to just use them as wall art.

These rolled paper flowers are also super popular to sell. They work great as additional decorations like base handmade crafts like signs and wall decor.

Another closely related craft project that is really popular to sell and uses the Cricut cutting machine are giant paper flowers. They are super expensive on sites like Etsy, some of them are north of fifty bucks a pop so it makes for a great side business. People love to use them for wedding wall decors, all sort of paper wall decor and most often just within the home like a nursery room.

I personally don’t like to make these bigger paper flowers to sell because of shipping cost and the amount of labor that goes into making them. The dimensional size of a box that can house one of these giant paper flowers just doesn’t make sense given the base price of the project. I much prefer making the smaller paper flowers which are more efficient to make, weigh less because they have fewer materials and are much much easier to ship.
