The first question you need to ask yourself is what a cover letter or a covering letter and why is it required when a candidate is applying for a particular job.

A cover letter is a single-page document that you include with your job application. It should state why you are the best candidate for a particular job. It goes along with your Resume and should end with the candidate asking for a job interview.

It is an important aspect of a job application because it shows your desire to work at the position and company you have applied for. It also acts like a good first impression for the hiring managers. A well-written cover letter can get you interviews and also make you a strong contender even if your resume is not up to the mark.

Now how should one write a cover letter? Well, at the end of this article we will surely solve this issue for you. So read on.

Remember, you need to address it to a hiring manager. If you begin with 'dear sir or madam' or 'to whom it may concern' then forget about getting an interview call. So browse through the company website, look up their professionals on LinkedIn. Your cover letter has to be addressed to someone, preferably the hiring manager. Also, you need to specify the position you are applying for so that there is no confusion.

While writing a cover letter, you should first begin with a personal introduction and then an explanation of how the job opening was discovered. Then, the rest of the paragraph should talk about your background. Include your educational qualifications, work specialization and relevant years of experience.

Then you need to sell yourself and tell the hiring manager then why you are the perfect candidate for the job opening. Explain how your previous work experience and skills meet their various needs.

In the last paragraph, thank them for taking out time to read your cover letter and tell them about the Resume you have attached along with the email. Your cover should give a reflection of your Resume. But, don’t go overboard.

Make sure your cover letter does not have any grammatical errors and typos. Re-read the letter and ask a friend or relative to read it as well. Remember, the cover letter is your first and last step of getting that interview call

With 20 years of experience, I was struggling to fit my Resume in 2 pages & with social media’s dominant role, wanted a crisp LinkedIn profile covering the entire gamut of my experience. Not only was my Resume put in 2 pages, it was presented in a fashion which I felt would want a prospective employer to meet me in person. My LinkedIn profile is more professional and distinct than my Resume. The best part is the process made me ‘look at my entire work life with a different perspective’. Am more than satisfied with Team Aspiration’s efforts.
