The Benefits And Advantages Of Modern JavaScript Frameworks

Posted: Dec 05, 2014
What is a framework?
A software framework is a program developed to perform specific functions in order to make the coding process more simplified. Some examples of frameworks include compilers, tool sets, code libraries, support programs and APIs.
The simplest explanation I have heard for a framework is this: If I ask you to cut a piece of paper that is 6" x 6", then you will measure one piece of paper and cut it appropriately, right? But if I ask you to cut me 100 pieces of paper, each being 6" x 6", then you will most likely not measure 100 times. You will create a 6" x 6" frame and use it to make the cuts. This simplifies the process and drastically reduces the time needed to complete the project. Software frameworks work in much the same way, they are just a bit more complex than that simple explanation.
At Yumasoft, we believe that frameworks are the future of web design and development. By using frameworks, we are able to reduce time, and in the process, reduce costs for our clients by using frameworks. In this way, we are able to develop extremely complex applications and software in just a fraction of the time it would take were we not using frameworks. Our team of expert coders and developers have years of experience in modern web technologies and research: hands-on experience digging deep into layers of code and utilizing top software programs in order to determine the best processes and methods to develop complex applications in a cost-efficient and timely manner. In this article, we will take a look at our results—the best frameworks available in the industry, and how they compare to each other.
Ember.js
Ember is a framework specifically built for productivity. Ember's Handlebars are integrated templates that automatically update whenever data is changed. Components are a feature of Ember that allows developers to create HTML tags specifically designed for their application. Handlebars is used to describe the markup and JavaScript is used for custom behavior implementation. Ember provides developers with the tools allowing them to write minimal code for complex applications. Ember is currently used by many large companies and enterprises including well-known entities such as Groupon, LivingSocial, Yahoo and more.
Angular.js
Angular is a framework that allows developers to extend the HTML vocabulary for custom applications. Angular offers superior control management features including data binding, controllers and plain JavaScript. The framework allows developers to wire up a backend with deep linking, form validation and server communication. Angular also allows developers to create and reuse components, and it is injectable, embeddable and testable.
Knockout.js
Knockout is a JavaScript framework that offers a variety of development features including elegant dependency tracking, declarative bindings and it is trivially extensible. Additional features include a pure JavaScript library, compact size, integrates with most popular browsers, and has a comprehensive suite of specifications.
Backbone.js
Backbone is a JavaScript framework that provides structure to web apps via models implemented with custom events and key value binding. Backbone currently only has one hard dependency: Underscore.js (>= 1.5.0). Backbone automatically updates the UI whenever data is changed. Backbone offers an online testing site, and has been used by many well-known companies including USA Today, Hulu, Vox, WordPress, Foursquare, Disqus and more.
Node.js
Node is a JavaScript framework that is unique from other JS frameworks. The goal of the framework is to provide a simple process for developers to create complex, scalable applications and software. The framework platform is built on Chrome's JavaScript runtime, and it uses an I/O model that is non-blocking and event-driven. This allows for an efficient and lightweight model specifically designed for real-time, data-intensive applications.
Node was developed with influence from a variety of systems including Twisted (Python) and Event Machine (Ruby). However, Node takes these models a step further by presenting the event loop as a language construct, not as a library. Node allows developers to completely write their application code in JavaScript by substituting traditional Ruby,.Net, PHP, Java, ColdFusion, etc. Node is used by many top-ranking enterprises including Walmart, The New York Times, Voxer, Yahoo, Microsoft, LinkedIn and more.
