Industrial coolers or commercial air coolers are large evaporative cooling units whose life span depends on how they are used and maintained. If maintained properly, they can be functional for decades.

An air coolers used widely in hot and dry climatic conditions. They not only cool the air but also and moisturise it. The mechanism works by running air over water-saturated cooling pads.

Industrial air coolers are mounted units meant for large halls and workspaces. They are ideal for big warehouses and workshop floors. However, these machines are subjected to a lot of air degrading factors over time. If they are not appropriately maintained, the air quality will degrade over time; it may cause health hazards in the long run. Therefore, proper maintenance of these industrial evaporative coolers is a must.

5 Tips for proper maintenance of industrial coolers:

1. Don’t let it collect dust-

Dust is a major degrading factor as far as an air cooler is concerned. A lot of dust accumulates inside the unit, making it lose its efficiency and air quality. Cleaning the fans at regular intervals to get rid of the dust deposited on them will ensure that it delivers its optimal performance with every use.

You will also have to clean out the cooling pads with water and mild detergent. It is applicable for personal coolers as well. Using lukewarm water will provide even better cleaning.

2. Cleaning out the vents:

Industrial coolers use air vents for distribution of air. These vents collect a lot of dust and dirt even when not in use. Unclean vents can be a source of bacteria and viruses if not cleaned at regular intervals. They are potential health hazards; people who breathe the impure and contaminated air circulated by the dirty vents can fall seriously ill.

3. Cleaning out water tank:

The tank inside air coolers that stores water must be cleaned against scaling. If not done, they are subject to degrading the quality of air. It causes the air from the vents to have bad odour and bacterial growth, which is a significant health hazard. Scrubbing the insides of the tank with a brush is an effective method of cleaning, using mild soap and water solution while scrubbing is highly recommended. Do not forget to drain out the water before cleaning.

4. Refrain from overloading the system:

In times of excess heat, there is a tendency to turn the thermostat at its lowest temperature settings. It is expected to cool down the place quickly, and it does that. However, this manoeuvre puts a lot of strain on the mechanism, overloading the system in most cases. Keeping the temperatures consistent at medium comfortable settings will ensure lower depreciation and higher usable life.

5. Replace cooling pads:

Cooling pads of an air cooler is subject to giving out bad odour and become breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses. This happens due to improper maintenance and neglect. Deposition of dust and dirt on them also reduces their effectiveness leading to lower air delivery. Annual replacement of these parts will ensure proper quality air delivery.

Commercial air coolers are excellent air cooling choice mainly because of their pocket-friendly attribute. However, maintenance is necessary for keeping up the quality of air.
