How to Fix ‘Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller’ not Running at Full Speed?
Posted: Aug 19, 2019
Realtek is known for manufacturing semiconductors and distributing them worldwide. Realtek possesses a large business of microchips, and large computer manufacturers mostly use its microchips in their products. One of the best selling components of Realtek is its network adapter chips which are used in most of the computers these days. However, some people are not satisfied with the speed it provides. Many users are claiming that they are not getting the speed on their PC, which their network offers. At the same time, other devices can run at full speed.
So, what is preventing the PC from running at full speed of your connection? Let’s see how to solve this problem.
What is causing the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller to run on Full Potential?
If you are also facing the same issue on your PC, then we are here to help you. Let’s see what is preventing your Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller from running quickly. Below we have provided some basic factors which can affect the speed of your network adapter:
- Incorrect Configuration: If your network adapter settings aren’t configured properly, then your controller can be limited in providing internet speed. Maybe a setting is restricting the speed of your network adapter. By tweaking some settings of your network controller you can get rid of the slow speed.
- Unsupported Ethernet Cable: In order to get the full potential of your network speed, your Ethernet cable must be supported with the speed that your network provides. If your cable is not compatible with the speed of your network, it will prevent your internet from running on high speeds.
- Incompatible Adapter: If your Wi-Fi adapter carries less speed than your router, it will affect the speed of your PC. Upgrading to a high-end adapter can enhance the speed.
Now you know what factors are responsible for preventing the speed of your network. So let’s start and fix the issue.
Fix 1: Configuring the Settings on Your PC
Let’s fix the issue by tweaking some configurations that might affect the performance of your network controller.
- Hit "Windows" + "R" keys together on your keyboard. It will bring the run dialog box on your screen
- Enter "ncpa.cpl" on the Run dialog box and then hit the Enter key.
- There you will find the network adapter that is currently in use. Right-click on it and then click on Properties. (the adapter will have green signals)
- After that, select the "Configuration" option and then go to the Advanced tab.
- Under the "Property" section, you will find a list of properties, and there you have to tap on the "Speed and Duplex."
- Under the "Value" section, choose the "1.0 GBPS Full Duplex."
- If there is no 1.0 GBPS option available in the Value section, that means that your router or network adapter aren’t supported with 1 GBPS speed.
If your router and Wi-Fi adapter both support 1 GBPS speed, then the problem could be the software.
Fix 2: Upgrading the Software
Let’s learn how to update the latest "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" software or drivers.
- Google for "Realtek PCIe GBE family controller latest drivers download" and then download the driver installation package from the site.
- Make sure to download a compatible one. After the download finishes, open the installation file and follow the onscreen instructions to install the latest drivers.
Once the installation finishes, restart your PC and check if the problem is solved or not.
If nothing is working, then replace the Ethernet cable and get the high-speed supportable cable from the market.
