An important thing to note is that the applicant should cross check the eligibility requirement of the MBA college to which he/she wants to apply as only MAT eligibility will not be sufficient for admission.

MAT Exam Pattern

Management Aptitude Test is an easy exam. It is divided into five sections but the last section is not counted for percentile calculation. The exam is held in paper based pattern as well as computer based pattern on different dates in the same month with easy difficulty level. The details of the exam are:

  • MAT test paper has a time duration of 2½ hours from 10AM to 12.30PM.

  • There are 200 objective type questions in MCQs form in the question paper

  • Question difficulty level is easy to moderate

  • The exam is divided in 5 sections with 40 questions in each section

  • Each correct answer is awarded +1 Mark

  • Each wrong answer is penalized with negative marking of -0.25 mark

  • MAT exam sections are Language Comprehension, Mathematical skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment.

  • Merit Score in the exam is calculated on the basis of 4 sections only and the score of Indian & Global Environment is separately shown but is not taken into account to calculate the merit or percentile in the score card.

  • The score card displays scaled score out of 800 Marks and not out of 160 or 200 raw scores

  • On the score card along with the sectional and overall scaled scores, the sectional and overall percentile is also displayed.

How to Prepare for MAT?

One of the important points which differentiate MAT exam preparation from other exams is the separate section with 40 questions in MAT on ‘Data Analysis and Data Sufficiency (DADS)’ which is slightly different from Data Interpretation in other exams. The DADS Preparation for MAT exam and the strategy to prepare for this important section is to be properly planned and followed to score high.

The exam preparation strategy needs more focus on four core sections keeping the ‘Indian & Global Environment’ section at second place. It requires your focus on preparing for the most important following 4 sections with 160 questions. These are Language Comprehension; Data Analysis & Data Sufficiency; Intelligence & Critical Reasoning; and Mathematical skills.

MAT cut offs for Admission

The cut offs in MBA admission are not very high although the MAT question paper and scoring pattern award liberal marks to exam takers. The MAT colleges cut offs especially among top 20 MAT colleges like – BIMTECH, IESMCRC, SDMIMD, NDIM, Jaipuria, FIIB, FLAME among others are slightly higher as compared to other MBA colleges accepting MAT scores since the merit position in top 20 colleges is based on little higher cut offs.

MAT Result is published in the last week in the month of MAT exam. The MAT score card is made available for download on AIMA official Website and no score card is sent by post or E-mail.

AIMA releases a list of MBA colleges accepting MAT score for each MAT exam on its official website.
