The New Year is well on its way, heading straight from spring into summer. It is time to throw out some of the old and bring in a whiff of fresh air and colour into your home. If you are looking at doing your home over in some of the latest colours and designs, then here are a few trends that experts in the home decorindustry predict will be all the rage this year.

Dynamic accents

This year will see a shift in focus from a singular and fixed look to what is popularly known as ‘chameleon decor’. Designers say that now is the time to throw on a basic, neutral foundation and then experiment with bright and eye-catching accents which can easily be changed, mixed and matched at ease. Thus dynamic home decor is the big thing now.

Glam and more glam

2014 marks the return of glamour and drama. Try dark and stormy black walls acting as the backdrop to metal accessories. It is a time for stark beauty and high impact glamorous finishes.

Old is gold

Interior decorating trends are like fashion trends too. They come and they go. However, like wardrobe classics, there are certain things that you can never go wrong with, here as well. One of these is vintage pieces. Get those one of a kind pieces with character and you will have all your guests asking where you got it from. Vintage chic never fails to add a unique touch.

Go home beige

This is one colour that never seems to go out of fashion, much to the chagrin of most designers who find it extremely insipid and boring. This year too, it is hoped that beige will bid the decor world a long overdue goodbye.

Flower power

Floral prints are back in fashion now. As is chintz. These are again, old favourites which keep popping back in fashion every now and then. If you want to use florals with a modern look, then pair them up with some modern patterns and designs for some interesting fusion.

Return of the navy blue

Blue, and especially the navy kind is being seen everywhere now. On the ramps, the streets, the magazines and so on. It is only a matter of time until it is adopted in interior design too. Navy blue is definitely an upcoming trend this year.

Going the classical way

It is predicted that people will grow tired of the minimalist modern and eclectic styles of decor. Many will return to their roots and start experimenting with older and more traditional styles of interior decoration, which they have been comfortable with in the past.

Mixing and matching

Try out all the innovative permutations and combinations. Lots of layering seems to be in, this season. Layers of materials as well as textures. Mix fabrics, different kinds of metals, wooden textures and so on.

Back to the blues

It’s not just the navy kind this season,. Designers are recommending all shades of blue, rich ad saturated tones of indigo to colourful shades of peacock blue, cobalt and so on. Blue is definitely the new black (or white, depending on your choice of fashion staple).

Stripes for all seasons

The striped look is also making a comeback and experts predict that it is here to stay for both the summer and winter seasons. A softer and cosier look is definitely on the charts for later 2014.

With some of these ideas, you will definitely have one of the most talked about homes this year!
