Keri Russell's hair is officially a part of the American pop culture lexicon. HerFelicity curls, the subsequent chop that stunned a nation and her '80s Soviet spy hair (not to mention an impressive assortment of mom wigs) on The Americans are all legendary now. On Tuesday night she continued her quiet reign of the beauty world with a red carpet look that elicited this email fromSteff to me:

"We've agreed in the office that we all want our hair and makeup to look like this all the time."

So I hopped on the phone with Tina Turnbow and Brian Magallones, her longtime makeup artist and hair stylist, respectively, to figure out how we can all look as good as Keri Russell did at the Brooklyn premiere of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on Tuesday night.

HAIR

Magallones cut about two-and-a-half inches off Russell's hair last week, giving her a long, layered cut that he angled around her face to make it look more "shaggy." Last night it was all about looking "Brooklyn," which is where she actually lives.

He blew her famously curly hair straight, adding Aveda's Brilliant Emollient Gloss because of the "300 percent humidity we had that night." Then he took small sections of hair, spritzed them with Aveda Volumizing Tonic and put a wave in them using a one and a half inch barrel curling iron. Here's the important part: He alternated the direction of the curl, first rolling one way, then the opposite way on the next section. "The look I wanted to give her was all about texture," Magallones told me. After brushing out the curls, he randomly flat ironed the ends. He finished up with Anti-Humectant Pomadeand Brilliant Styling Cream on the ends to get piecey-ness. He also teased the crown a bit for a "wink and a nudge" to Bardot. He finished it off with Control Force Hairspray to keep it from getting "fluffy, which is not a good word, right?" he said. Right!

MAKEUP

Russell wanted to have fun with her look, so Tina Turnbow obliged by giving the actress a purple eye look to make her green eyes pop. Turnbow is a big fan of eye pencils and smudging, which is how she gave Russell that sexed-up look last night. She used the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Vice and extended it out. The key to the pointy smudge? A pointy smudger brush, duh, for better precision than just using your fingers. On top of the liner she addedVotre Vu eye shadow from the Violette palette, and finished it off with Kevyn Aucoin mascara.

And surely you noticed Russell's facial glow. Russell is a fan of Dr. Hauschka products, so Turnbow moisturizes with the Quince Day Cream, then addedStila's Illuminating Foundation. She finished the look off with an Ilia lip crayon in Call Me.

Now go out there and try out your own Brooklyn Bardot look, slouchy leather pants optional.
