Choosing La Tania for Your Next Winter Break

If you’re looking for a great winter break, your first task is to select a great resort and ski chalet. La Tania can offer both.

The resort

Sitting at 1400m not too far from Courchevel and with many a gorgeous ski chalet, La Tania is part of the huge Three Valleys Alpine area. It’s a relatively new resort, having been developed for the Olympics in the 1990s. In some respects, it’s not too dissimilar to several others in the locality but it does have some attractive aspects, including the presence of two ski schools.

Another thing to note is that it has a small, compact and homely feel to it. It is regarded as a family-friendly resort, and that means you’ll (usually) be free of the posing brigade for whom skiing is often more about being seen wearing the right label clothing than actually doing much on the slopes!

The accommodation

If you like a good quality ski chalet, La Tania has plenty to choose from. These are spread out over a fairly wide area outside of the centre itself and many nestle in the surrounding forest areas – something else that makes this resort different from others. Of course, if you prefer your accommodation a little more central and and with perhaps less character, there are some apartment blocks. There are also a couple of hotels offering rooms.

A word of warning: make sure when you’re looking for a chalet that you book early. In the peak season demand can be high.

Night life

Yes, this is usually of interest to potential skiers! Generally, the culture in the pubs, bars and restaurants here is relaxed and informal. It’s often described as being lively without being excessive. Prices are typically described as reasonable by ski resort standards, meaning you won't need to take out a second mortgage for a few drinks in the evening.

Other recreation

Ten-pin bowling, ice karting, snowboarding, cinemas, health and fitness centres, swimming pools and just about anything else you can think of is available in the general area, or in Courchevel (about 1 mile away) and Méribel (about 4 miles). It’s difficult to be too precise as things come and go and the distribution of attractions between the individual resorts can change over time. What can be said is that you’re not going to find yourself stuck for things to do if you suddenly and inexplicably tire of the slopes!

Getting there

The nearest airports are Chambery, Geneva and Lyon. Transfers are readily available and modestly priced. You can drive there too, but remember, during the winter months snow chains are mandatory. You can rent them in the UK prior to departure. It’s also possible to take a train to Moutiers and pick up a transfer from there.

With a great ski chalet, La Tania is a superb place for your skiing break. Enjoy it!
