How to Tackle Sexual Harassment at Workplace?

Many questions have been raised and left unattended on how a country is working on taking measures for women safety especially in India, where there is an increased rate in criminal offences and sexual harassments against women and debates on women safety in India.

Women are facing serious problems and are unsafe whether they are anywhere irrespective of being at home or at the workplace. They are attacked and harassed on the roads, public transports, workplaces and everywhere.

Women safety in India is the prevailing question that all Women in India are asking its inhabitants. You cannot rely or wait for your demand to be answered therefore take down these step by step measurements to prevent yourself from being a victim of the one taken undue advantage of. In this context we will discuss how to tackle sexual harassment at workplace:

1. Step 1 –

Prevent: It is often said prevention is better than medication, therefore just like precaution saves you from multiplying your disease; similarly, prevention to arising harassment is the first step in promoting women safety in workplaces.

2. Step 2 –

Comprehen: You must be wise enough to learn the policies and conditiones underlined for women safety, sexual harassment and the actions taken against it by the organisation you are working at. You must also be prudent to examine anybody’s unrequired advancements towards you physically.

3. Step3 –

Perceive: It is very necessary to be aware and conscious of any prevailing sexual harassments with your colleagues or by your colleagues not just verbally or physical but also visually, written or non-verbal actions. You must strongly deter against any such sexually harassing behaviours.

4. Step 4 –

Scrutinize: If you do not like an employee’s way of being responsive to you or passing lame comments or sexually marked jokes on you then you must definitely not let the day pass with it and immediately show them your consent that you do not like it and oppose such jokes or comments.

5. Step 5-

Oppose: Be strong enough to oppose any such misbehaviour against yourself or any of your fellow being. If needed confront them and tell them straight on their face that they should not harass you or your fellow employee.

6. Step 6 –

Resolve: You can also try to keep good terms after confronting to avoid any feeling of hatred or revenge attitude of the harasser towards yourself by keeping confidential information along with witnesses who have been at the spot where you were sexually harassed.

7. Step 7 –

Caution: As mentioned earlier, even if you are not the one being harassed and you see someone else in trouble then you should support that individual in fighting her battle and also encourage others to help her against the harasser. This will promote women safety.

Women safety in India has been a matter of debate not just from the past few years but since then, when the Sati system was prevailing. It is a very important question which we all ask ourselves that whether any measures for women safety in India are actually being implemented or not.
