Bathing is considered mandatory for a student residing in boarding schools. Bathing is an important ingredient of discipline imposed on the students who usually want absolute freedom. Daily ablution is another term not familiar to many people. An ablution is an act of cleaning one’s body by washing and it is a part of a religious ritual. A student in the boarding school may be peeved by the imposition of bathing every morning notwithstanding the weather or temperature of the day. But for you and for many others, bathing is special, kind of luxury, a personal moment spent with yourself while cleansing the body and enjoying yourself. Chances are you might need a piece of clothing known as a towel or bath linen to wipe yourself dry.

Earliest bath linen must have been different but bath linen was in use during those days. The linens were made from yarns spun from flax fibres. The earliest surviving pieces of linen are found in Egypt where it was used at the tombs. Cotton is another material that is often used today to make household linens. Even bath linen is made out of cotton. During the middle age, linen was especially popular in the western world where cotton was alien. Most cotton was produced in the East. Linen was so popular during the middle age that a bride would be gifted with linen and she would accept the gift gracefully.

There was a huge change in cloth manufacturing after the Industrial Revolution. Cheap raw material from Asian countries was exported to the West to help the mills over there manufacture clothes and linen. It happened when colonization of the empire was at its peak. Even centuries ago bathing was considered extremely pious and important and the people of those times needed bath linen.

There is a variety of linen as far as its colour, design, fabric and length are concerned. Linen varies in weight too. The lightest imaginable linen could be a handkerchief. Pure linen is a fabric where there is pure flax and nothing else. It can be blended with cotton or synthetic yarn. Linen is generally woven or it can be knit too. One special characteristic of linen is it gets softer after repeated use. It remains strong after repeated use and the softness has no bearing on its strength.

There is sheeting linen that is mostly used as a sheet. There is one Damask linen available in some countries. There is glass towelling linen and there is Holland linen. Cambric linen and bird’s eye linen are also well-known. There is one more variety of linen available and in use. This is known as blended linen. As it is obvious from the name, this linen is not pure but blended with other material.

So, if you want to prolong your pleasure of bathing and soaking the sweat and moisture off your body, go get a stylish piece of linen. You will fall for exotic bath linen for their exquisite designs and patterns.
