Installing a washbasin is an easy DIY job. All one needs to do is have the willingness and a few tools and home improvement skills. Whether you are installing a new basin or are moving to a new place or are replacing your old basin, you should do it in a systematic way. Depending on the different shapes and styles of the basin, the installation process will also be different. The basic steps for installation are the same for all types of basins. If you follow the steps mentioned in this article you can install your basin easily and securely.

How to assemble and fit your half pedestal wash basin into place

Before you start installing your half pedestal wash basin, attain some common tools for doing the job. Moreover, you need some components that match your valves that have already been installed inside your plumbing system. The tools that will be required by you are slip joint pliers, Silicone caulking, Basin wrench, Set of plumbing sockets, Plumbers’ wrenches, etc.

  • Firstly, switch off the water supply valves that are below the basin. If you are unable to find them, then switch off the main water supply. After switching it off ensure by opening the taps if the water supply has been off. After you are fully sure, remove the old basin. Remember to cut the drain line and water supply from the faucet with a locking plier. A little bit of water will pour which is pretty normal.
  • The next step is finding the nut which is the connecting point of basin and drain. Find it and cut it. It will either be on the floor or the wall. Unscrew the nut with help of a locking plier. Now, remove the old basin.
  • Measure your new half pedestal wash basin to see if it fits the exact space of the old basin. If it is the same size then adjust the basin according to the marks. If it's not the same, you’ll have to do some adjustments and trimming to fit your basin into place.
  • The modern basins usually come with screws and clips that keep everything in place. Additionally, you just have to find materials like tailpipe and drainpipe.

Installing a new bathroom basin

Put the new basin in place and fit it. Use thin silicone to seal the lip of the sink and put it in the hole. The application of silicon is messy so, apply it smoothly. If it's an undermount basin then let someone hold the sink and then apply silicone under it. If it’s a basin made of granite then, you have to use a drill machine.

Secure the basin with clips. The design and size of the clips vary according to the design and style of the basin. Now adjust the faucets. Do some prior measurements in order to avoid any mismatch. One important thing is that the water lines should match the new fixture. If they don’t then, get additional water lines.

Now, you can switch on the water supply and join them with the lines of the new tap. Adjust the pop-up which will enable you to close and open the bathroom basin. Tighten the taps and your bathroom basin is fixed.
