5 Amazing Places to Visit In and Around Dalaman
Posted: Jul 23, 2014
There are many wonderful places to visit in Turkey, but when you book holidays to Dalaman you will be in one of the very best destinations. If you plan to visit you will find a host of things to see and do nearby. Here are five of the best to keep in mind when you're planning your holiday.
1. The Mud Baths of Dalyan
The Mud Baths of Dalyan are an easy day trip - and very well worth the trip. In fact, these baths are one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country. During holidays to Dalaman you'll be able to reach Dalyan with ease, then it's just a matter of joining a tour to the mud baths. Here you will be able to soak in the thick mud, which is rich in sulphur. You can relax and have fun getting covered head to toe in the mud; it is said to have healing properties to treat skin conditions and rheumatic problems.
2. Kekova
Kekova is another top place to visit when you're staying in the region. Here you can see the remains of an underwater town called Dolchiste, which sank following an earthquake in the 2nd century. One of the best ways to see it is to hire a canoe and drift over the top of the town, looking down through the clear waters at the streets and houses below.
3. Saklikent Gorge
Saklikent Gorge is one of the top attractions in the area for adventure sports enthusiasts. When booking holidays to Dalaman, many people head here to enjoy some fun for an active day out. The gorge is 17 miles long and is sometimes flooded during the summer. When you head here on a tour you can spend a fun day climbing up waterfalls and scaling rock walls – it's great fun. (If a little wet!)
4. Kalkan
Kalkan is a pleasant little fishing village that you will be able to reach quite easily. It is located near Fethiye, and is one of the best-preserved villages around the area. It is built on a hill, and one of the best things to do here is head to a restaurant at the top and enjoy a meal looking down over the village and out to sea.
5. Patara Beach
For something altogether more relaxing, head to Patara Beach near Kalkan, which is one of the best in the area. It is nine miles long and you may well find that you have most of it to yourself, even though you will have to pay a small fee to enter. The water is shallow and warm, and the sand is soft and golden – it's not hard to spend a day relaxing here. To top it off, you can explore the remains of ancient Roman ruins nearby.
These are some of the best places to visit for those booking holidays to Dalaman. However, this is just a small selection of the places you can visit and there is plenty more to see and do in this spectacular area.
