  • IELTS ACADEMIC: -

This is an exam especially for those who are planning to study abroad and want to go for higher education in a University or College abroad. This exam is also for those who wish to work or get training in a professional field such as engineering or Medicine. This exam is especially for students wanting to pursue academic pursuits as the name suggests.

This exam assesses the readiness and preparedness of a candidate for academic studying or training in English.

  • IELTS GENERAL: -

How are the two exams the same/different?

Both General and Academic Training Exam consist of 4 parts which are speaking, listening, writing and reading.

  • LISTENING: -

a) For both Academic and General exam, the listening module is for 30 minutes

b) In both the exams there are 4 recorded listening experts which the students have to attempt.

  • SPEAKING: -

b) For both the Academic and General Training exams the speaking module is of 11 to 14 minutes.

c) Short and long questions are there in the exam where the candidate has to speak on a familiar topic are there in both formats of the speaking module. Also there is a structured discussion in both exams.

  • READING: -

a) In both the Academic and General Training exams the reading part is 60 minutes’ long

b) In both the exams there are three reading jobs with questions about each reading.

c) In the Academic exam there are a variety of texts to read which are factual, descriptive and analytical. Also the reading part includes graphs, diagrams and illustrations.

d) In the general exam there are 3 questions on the reading part. The first section includes two or three short texts. The second section includes two work related short texts. And in the final part there is a long text about some general interest topic.

e) In both the Academic and General exams the texts from the reading sections are authentic and come from books, journals and newspapers for the academic exam and from books, handbooks and newspapers for the general training exam.

a) WRITING: -

b) For both the IELTS Academic and General Training exams the writing section is 60 minutes long

c) There are 2 tasks in both the formats. Task 1 is a minimum of 150 words and Task 2 is a minimum of 250 words.

d) In the Academic exam the Task 1 is about writing about a table, chart, diagram or graph. Task 2 is an Essay.

e) In the General Exam Task 1 is about writing a letter and Task 2 is a essay wring assignment.
